Just a heads up. My girlfriend was running along Mel's trail at Burnaby mountain this evening and was attacked by an owl. She survived and seems to be ok. Could have been her pony tail that attracted it? who knows..

Was solo night riding on Fromme and there was an owl standing on the mtn hwy around where the lot is now. Scared the crap outta me! It was about the right height for a small child, like a scene out of a horror movie….. until it flew off

Yeah, maybe it was a Great Horny owl, eh?

Freedom of contract. We sell them guns that kill them; they sell us drugs that kill us.

Trail Saboteurs, people leaving roaches behind, deadly owl's, what's next? Sounds like an interesting horror movie to me.

at first I thought this was gonna be a thread about some weird new sexual position you invented.

We don't know what our limits are, so to start something with the idea of being limited actually ends up limiting us.

This trip to Kelowna was definately an undertaking - Liam and I had been planning this project for 24 hours. We worked really hard to pull out all the stops in this video. We had slo-mo goggle shots; time lapses; pedal flips; outrageous product shots; unloading and loading the bike; walking through the field with your hand in wheat. At the end of the day this trip was all about just getting out and riding with all my friends.

Yep…it's the pony tail.
I was running the BP from Grouse towards Mountain Highway, when an owl took a talon to the knot in my Buff. It was at the section just before you pop out at Skyline. Surprised the crap out of me….dead silent. Turns out it had swooped at another running buddy the day before. He was wearing a toque with a string and pom at the end.
I had to return the same way, so I picked up a couple of fallen boughs and held them over my head as I ran through that section….would have looked a bit ridiculous had I come upon anyone else at the time.

I suspect it has something to do with nesting season as well.

Just so you know seeing an owl is a portent of fortune and a positive omen. The biology of their feathers so that they are silent in a glide to catch prey (mice etc) is a thing of pure natural beauty. Their ears are slightly offset so that they can better use them as directional finders. Owls are very cool creatures. In all the years I have been in the woods I have seen one only once. You are fortunate to have had a close encounter. Granted from your girlfriends point of view most likely not, but owls are nocturnal and encounters with them are rare.
