A great Birthday Present

So today I turn 27. This normally isn't a big deal and isn't worth posting about on an online forum, except for… Six months ago to the day, myself and a friend started out on an overnight trip to silver star. We left kitsilano before 8am sometime and arrived in Vernon just in time for lunch. The day was fantastic and spirits were high. "One more run" we agreed. Pipeline. Now I am no stranger to trails like this. The two of us scrub most of the jumps on dirt merchant just to see how fast we can really go and I was in rare form. However such was not to be my fate as I came into a step up with the intention of just hucking it. My rear shock over compressed and rebounded faster then I expected it to. The front end dropped and I sailed forward. Somehow I managed to keep my face from creating a crater in the ground and fell over the front wheel as it landed. Why is this important? You add my speed to it (I estimate 60km/hrs but it was more likely between 40-50km/hrs) and you get a recipe for disaster. I snapped my left femur in half like a carrot. Go ahead, break a carrot. That is what my bone looked like.

So what does this have to do with today? Today is my birthday. Today it was sunny for the first time in a few weeks. Today it was warm. And today I rode a trail on my bike for the second time since the accident. I felt good. I didn't hesitate as much as the first ride. And when I got home, there was a small furry animal waiting to play fetch in the park with me.

Today is a good birthday.

For those of you who are sitting on the couch with limbs and other parts of your body all wrapped up due to your injury; just remember that if you work hard and refuse to give up, you to can have a good birthday. ^_^

Nice.

Debate? Bikes are made for riding not pushing.

Well then, happy birthday to you sir.

:fruit:

This trip to Kelowna was definately an undertaking - Liam and I had been planning this project for 24 hours. We worked really hard to pull out all the stops in this video. We had slo-mo goggle shots; time lapses; pedal flips; outrageous product shots; unloading and loading the bike; walking through the field with your hand in wheat. At the end of the day this trip was all about just getting out and riding with all my friends.

First off, happy birthday…cheers.

BTW, I learned the lesson YEARS ago; never take the last run after someone calls it! To this day when someone calls last run, I go sit down and drink a beer instead.

Happy Birthday!

We avoid "last run"; instead we say 2 more and quit after 1, lol.

Happy Birthday.
Having a brush with death, a catastrophe or the like is an amazing way to stop taking everything for granted and realising that we live in a pretty amazing place.

In the bike park, less is always more. Always.
