i especially liked this part:

"While it can be great fun to hit a purpose-built mountain bike trail specially designed to maximize and maintain flow, there’s a special satisfaction that comes with cleaning that craggy old bike-hostile trail with the inconvenient root garden and the super-tight, v-shaped switchbacks with rock drops right at the crux of the turns. I believe eliminating the latter and replacing it with the former chips away at an important part of the soul of our sport."

We don't know what our limits are, so to start something with the idea of being limited actually ends up limiting us.

That is why I quoted it in the MTB Cypress document for the Upper Lands Working Group.

I miss skinnies.

I sure don't.

I love being in the PNW: some of the most technically diverse trails around. Best place in the world to ride a bike.

Everybody has different skills and interests, so why should all trails be the same?

The beauty of stunts were that you (for the most part) didn't have to ride them to ride the trail.

As to skinnies - they taught me how to hold a line, where my back wheel was in a turn, how to "hold on" (that I'd make it). It gave me the skills to do rock lines that weren't just a slab, tight narrow must make lines on cliffs, and how to envision a line when options presented themselves.

I enjoy engaging my mind as well as my body in a sport. But then again I never liked McDs food either.

However now is the time to pray for snow - so many mountains to climb and ski - bring it on! :)

Second that. I walked down Jerry Rig the other day and wondered how I ever rode that trail back in the early years.

you developed the skill and then put it to good use.

Totally agree with that. It's also nice that the North Shore has more options/different trails these days. We're spoilt for choice now with all the variety.

I'd take a fast flawless run through Bookwus over a KOM run on new Espresso any day.

There's nothing better than an Orangina after cheating death with Digger.
