MountainBike.Com: Three wheel sizes is a lot—will any go away?

David Turner, Turner Bikes: The 29er hardtail is not going away. It’s in the psyche of some riders. It’s almost a religious experience. These guys and girls, they dig it, they don’t see the shortcomings—it’s true love. And there are a bunch of them out there. Go to any endurance race and you can see the dominance of the 29er hardtail. But the number of full-suspension 29ers above 130mm of travel is already small, and 650b just put the nail in the coffin there.

And it’s going to kill 26, too. Short-travel 26 right away. Done. I don’t think companies are going to put a dime more into those bikes. But I think the 150mm-and-up market will still be in the realm of 26 for a while. It will take years of trying fork offsets and tire sizes and construction to tune in the all-mountain market, from 150mm and up. It will die too, but it will be displaced slower.

Is that is supposed to be a 29er Enduro or 650B? Second shot front wheel looks massive compared to rear wheel of bike right behind it.

Im sure the 2013 S-Works Enduro has an aluminum rear triangle for a very certain reason.

Hey Steed, when is the Big S, Giant, and SCB releasing their 650B bikes?

Honestly, that type of info usually isn't available to us at this time. With Santa Cruz its usually good and thorough R[HTML_REMOVED]D cycles so that the bike is truly ready for the market, rather than rushing a product to market just to make sure you get to the "fad" in time. If they do make a 650B bike it'll be the right travel, geo, etc. for the intended use.

i'd be bummed if the "industry" dropped any wheel size options… i've ridden all sizes - 26,650B, 29 here on the shore and they all rip just in slightly different ways… different strokes for different folks!

Im more onboard this 650b if the 26 wheel is relegated to infant and gravity bikes only.

Probably the final nail in the 26er 6" AM category though

Did motocross ever go through wheel size issues?

Quoted for awesomeness.

is going big on a bike the only way to get you stoked on the sport? what happened to riding with your bros, travelling, and riding unique places, to get people stoked on riding?

fines are useless. there needs to be more punches to the throat.
