Sad news…
I think a Sting Operation may actually be a good idea to seriously consider..for the following reasons:
1. Lot's of bikes are being stolen, but that's mainly because their are more and more out there, they are easy to steal or carry away, and they are a relatively easy to re-sell, whether locally or after shipping out of town.
2. The police can only react after something has happened…and unless they get tips on a major organized ring, as is often the case ith cars thefts, they really won't and /or can't do much.
3. People, and especially crooks and bottom feeders, are creatures of habit and routine. If something works once, twice…they keep doing it until they are stopped.
4. "Block Watch" type organizations have been successful, which means doing things on our own can work.
5. It is also quite likely that a majority of bikes stolen are being stolen by only a few of the same people, and these people may / or probably even know each other. This means that if you catch one, you may catch or find out about others and that you can potentially make a big dent in the action.
6. I would suggest that we / you / someone approach the RCMP and or other police to see what interest they have in this.
Alternatively…you do it yourself… and if you catch a bike thief…don't tell anyone…just take the fucker out to the woods…beat him until he tells you who his other buddies are… and then leave him there to rot and get eaten by the bears.
Your choice…but I would recommend trying with the cops first because if you get cought doing the other…you go to jail and the thief may get off.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand, strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "Woo Hoo - What a ride!!"
