Thanks for the well wishes. and thanks jamie and heckler for getting in touch with me.

I've msgd the seller. As well as a couple of other buds msgd too. Fingers crossed he likes the sounds of one of our emails…

Moral of the story though, is even if you reinforce your shop or storage, ie, window bars, new door etc etc, you should still chain them up inside or some other second level security. Learn from my pain chaps….

I'd like to see what sort of priority something like this is for the cops … I've heard of people getting the brush-off from them and taking the law into their own hands.

I had a cop help me recover a friends bike after sending them the CL post. I contacted the seller, who provided me the stolen serial number (not all thieves are the smartest…), which the cop then confirmed with the shop my buddy bought it from.

Cop called the dude, told him who he was, guys freaked and dumped the bike at the Main St cop shop the next day. Sometimes the good guys win.

The cops also said they can't do a damn things without proof of ownership (aka a matching serial number). You can have pictures galore with all kinds of identifying features, but without the serial, the cops can't repossess it

Good friend of mine is an RCMP bike officer in Newton, he's an avid mountain biker as well. Spotted a crack head riding a TR450 I think it was, stopped the guy and called in the serial number. Sure enough reported stolen, bike was returned etc. Cops want to help, all to often the proof they need just isn't there ie. serial number. REGISTER YOUR BIKES or at least jot down the number so you can report it if it does get stolen.

Back in the day my buddies original Norco VPS was stolen from his basement in Delta.
He sleuthed his ass off, and spotted a kid riding it down Scott rd one day. So he followed the kid, and noted where he lived. The next day my buddy cases the house on his borrowed bike, and low and behold the same kid comes home from work, same time as before. Long story short, my buddy talked the fellow into flipping the bike over "to check out the linkage" and noted the S/N. He confirmed it was his bike, contacted the DPD, and within 2 days he got his bike back with some new upgraded parts.

Sometimes there is a happy ending. Good luck again!
