how much of a pain is it to get them? I hear it's a bit of a cluster fuck now. or do you just by regular day pass.
Whistler backcountry lift tickets
I don't think they list them on the website, but last I saw they were $56(ish) and you need to fill out an itinerary
what I was told, you need to buy in advance, fill forms and you get them from extremely canadian (who ever that is???). you cant get them from guess services. they make it so much fun! to many lawyers in whistler! sounds like a lot of crap to do just for a mellow night out.

Was that a change for this year?
I've heard that in past years, but I had no problem last season wandering over to guest services.
A friend did get one from Guest services this year. There is a form to fill in so make sure you know what your rough plan is.
Oboe or Spearhead glacier as a destination should be enough.
The guest services people typically have no idea about back country.
I think you get 3 scans on the ticket which is enough to get you to the top.
all I found so far here
they sure dont make it easy.
BACKCOUNTRY LIFT TICKETS
1-Ride backcountry access lift tickets available for $53 + HST. Must be pre-ordered through Extremely Canadian.
Backcountry passes have never been officially mentioned on the WB website.
Just go to guest services and they'll sort you out. You'll need to show your skins, beacon and shovel, maybe your probe too, and fill out a rough itinerary.
The Extremely Canadian thing is just for their programs.
And, if you have an Edge Card on you, make sure the BC pass gets scanned at the lift and not the Edge Card.

I hope it's four to at least get you on top of Showcase.

Ahh, good point.
How to get a cheap bc pass.
1- wait for tired tourist to get out of the gondola in the afternoon.
2- ask them if they are done for the day.
3- give them 20$
4- and voila, cheap pass!
