Stupid but it seems CIBC is getting valuable marketing from it.

The most painful thing at WB this year was seeing the Mandarin signs in the village gondola building/olympic station :(

There is no such thing as "Mandarin writing". Written Chinese is logosyllabic - characters can represent hieroglyphs, phrases, words, concepts or syllables. Chinese language speakers from each of the major Chinese language groups (of which Mandarin is one) who often cannot understand each other through spoken communication can communicate by reading and writing. (Assuming they aren't limited by either simplified or traditional characters).
