Instead of threadjacking the other skins thread, any tips for ice and skinning?

I'm still a rank amateur and could use all the tips you got.

Lots of edging practice, focus on trying to keep as much skin contact as possible, weight your heels on your risers (don't panic and lean forward) and use ski crampons if it's really bad.

Ski crampons. Or bust out and make a new track.

I find it common in the Blackcomb bc that someone will set the first track kinda steep and everyone just sticks to it. More people use it and it ices up and then people just keep struggling with it. You're not going to be breaking knee deep fresh so just steep out and cut a new track a few feet over. You'll get better grip on the fresh snow.

So when do you put ski crampons on before or after you back slide into the tree well?

not needing ski crampons is the skiing equivilent of not needing snow tires

Those fritschi crampons would go great on my GF's skis Rat

Thanks guys, for me I think cbennett is on it for this one. My friend who's been doing this since he was six months old gets through it easily.. Whenever I struggled I never thought put the weight on the heels… more ball of foot.

The only time I wanted crampons thus far I was certain I was going to die and haven't been in that situation since. I think I will buy crampons and chuck them in my pack for the next time however…

I have a little plastic tupper-where box for my glopp stop wax/driver/spare parts that fits exactly between the crampons when they are nested togetehr. Wrap the box [HTML_REMOVED] crampons with a ski strap to keep the whole thing all togetehr, also it doesn't waste space in yer pack
