How good of a snowboarder are you?
I bought 188 Sin7's because they had them for $399 at the WB outlet shop in Squish last winter. I bought them for my second time skiing. If I'd had known what I know now, I would have gone stiffer as the transition to skiing wasn't nearly as difficult as I thought it was going to be.
I'm 5'11/225-210ish depending on how far into the ski season we are fwiw.

Does it matter that they're telemark skis? Can I mount with the bindings from heckler?

do you have more than one pair of those? looking for something cheap to mount gifted g3 tele bindings on…..they are hideous, but that price is in the range I want to spend!

+1. Two hours at Destination on Marine dr to get boots that fit will outweigh cheating out on the skis.

Go buy the best fitting , most comfortable boot you can afford…. about 100 flex for your weight . and then beg,borrow, steal any pair of skis you can get yer hands on .steal a set of rental poles from the local mountains . poles are disposable and in the beginning YOU WILL FALL DOWN and bend your poles
The boots are important . you can ski on any old pair of beat down sticks . but the boots are key.
Did i mention you should get a pair of boots that fit?
Further , depending on where you plan on making most of your turns this season . go cheap on a set of 180-188 cm 90-100mm wide with lots of sidecut cruisers you will have more fun , and your skill set will progress quicker. thinking GS style carving ski. get used to some speed and initiating good comfortable turns . Next season spend some money on new or newish skis.
a soft ski for your first real season will be fine . it will be easy to ski . easy turn and light weight . they will chatter at speed and on ice . But dump em if you become better and stick with this rad ass sport.
Narrower skis (90mm-100mm) will provide a little less float and will be more work in the softer pow of whistler and the interior MTs . But on the locals with the grouse goop , cypress cement and seymour slush they will be easy turning and build a platform for your skills.

FYI I skied once two seasons ago, bought a set of skis last year, just cuz I want to become better at sliding on snow.

+3,288. This is what I did. My boots are tight, fit incredibly well and most importantly, feel great. Destination is a great shop.
