New Winter Gear?

my buddy has a pair of Cochise so I asked him how they were and he said yeah a hard charger, great when they are up on edge but he was suprised at how bad they were in Pow which is not their purpose and besides I have other skis for pow

I have the OG Cochise 185 (2013) with STH2 916 alpine bindings on them, I use them for my do everything resort ski. They are really fun, feel like a fat GS ski. Not great float in powder as XXXer's buddy says, and they are also not a light ski -- would get the touring version if you wanted to tour. 185cm is short enough that I do not ever feel like are too much. In fact I could use the 193cm for going fast in the alpine.

The Hoji pro,  a new ^^ big touring boot from Dynafit looks interesting. It will be measured against the Vulcan which should be in its last year ... again

When one says not great in powder compared to the big rockered pow skis we all have? Or thought would be better than they were advertised/reviewed?

I actually didn't use my 134/118/131 rockered pow skis last season, I way more enjoyed skiing in the powder on a narrower 98/110mm waist skis then floating on the top. Sounds like this ski may have too much drag in the soft stuff. Weird, it has stellar reviews online.  Looks like I am going to switch up the plan.

My comparison for skiing pow is my 4FRNT Renegade (135x122x129) with Guardians or 4FRNT Hoji (130x112x121) with Dynafit Radical ST. Both of these are full rocker flat tail skis designed with forward mount points to give them an ability to pivot in soft snow. They both float well and give you a "free" feeling in powder to make a variety of turn shapes and sizes. Super fun powder skis, although the Renegade need to be skied hard to be fun while the Hoji you can be lazy.

The Cochise I have (shape may have changed in recent years?) has a subtle tip rocker but they are pretty stiff in the front of the ski so they just do not float very much compared to other skis with similar tip/waist dimensions. I hear the Salomon Q106 is really good in pow (softer shovel) but haven't tried it yet. Might want to look at Blizzards other skis, the Rustler 10/11 seem to be getting really good reviews and they may have also changed the Cochise, as I said mine are 2013.

-Coming off a Nordica Enforcer 100 in a 185, this Salomon ski has proven itself in touring and big inbounds days. Ski's well on the groomers, and can charge on a big mountain day. I've got a handful of touring days on these skis, and have enjoyed        every turn.

-Salomon QST Pro 120 Boot

-2 touring days so far this season on this boot. So far, so good. Have yet to ski it inbounds, but anticipate good feedback. 

-Arcteryx Voltair 30 Avalanche Bag

-It's heavy, and its pricy. As someone else noted, 'What price do we put on our lives?'  I really like the fact you get 8 inflations out of each battery charge. It fits really well, and has crazy amounts of cargo room.

My Lotus have 120 mm under foot made of Bamboo and a  full 60cm's of early rise, I can actualy lean forward as far as possible while skiing forward and the tips DO NOT dive so great in pow but when things get variable or hard they flop around a lot

the Cochise  are only 108mm underfoot are stiff and have some metal in them so they are gona be stiff heavy and rule in the variable

until it gets bullet proof when I bring out the Atomic Redsters a 183 womens FIS GIS ski I have double released from these just hitting  patch of soft snow

I got a chance to ski the Cochise in cut up mank and side country pow, I found it to be a really nice ski that was easy to manage, i thot it skied pow pretty good actualy, at only 108 quicker side to side  and on the scale the Cochise /Baron weighed about the same weight as the 120/Baron I would have been skiing ...good score

im running the same boots and binders.  as that new guy deerejay..love them to bits...on a set of ol' dynastar legend pro xxl's cause im sick that way.

hard charging set up that likes to go fast and hard, like diggs mom.

you get them blue ones ...not as fast as the red ones

dude, it was the Santa Maria, not the mayflower...you should know, you are old enough to have been on the boat with them.

....and sometimes slower is faster.
