Sales are happening now.

Is there any particular reason I shouldn't get this?

We don't know what our limits are, so to start something with the idea of being limited actually ends up limiting us.

I really like the simplicity of my zoom. And it's $100 cheaper than your sale.

The Zoom is cheaper for good reason. Thats not to say its bad, theyre just two very different beacons. Id almost put the Zoom in a category with the Freeride that Pieps made. For the extra 100, Id go pulse.

The Zoom is a great beacon that may not have the bells and whistles of a Pulse but is gets great reviews. Range in "ideal" beacon orientation might not be the 50m of class leaders but it actually out performs many when the beacon is not in ideal orientation and that in my mind is a big plus. What are the chances that your buried victim's beacon will be perfectly flat to the surface?

If you read my post carefully I never suggested that there was anything wrong with the Zoom.

Everyone Ive spoken with, and the bulk of the reviews Ive read, say that the Pulse is the best beacon theyve used. Ive only used it once, and I never had to do an actual/real search (just practice) with it.

I'll stick with my claim, for the sake of $100, I'd go with the Pulse.

Sidenote: I cant find any literature that suggests the Zoom outperforms the Pulse when its not at an 'ideal' orientation.

we each make our own call. I just like the zoom because it's simple. I'm not using it very often, similar to my GPS. I have no problem using the zoom, but my GPS with all it's bells and whistles is a pain to relearn every two to three months when I pull it out.

reviews of each, and many more:

They get the pro deals but they don't get em free so I think guides will personaly use the more expensive Pulse and rent or give out the Element to their clients to use

I got the Element 2 yrs ago cuz at the time my best choice would be between the brand new 3+ or new Element, AT THE TIME the 3+ was possibly having some software issues while the Element was a stripped cheaper version of the highly regarded Pulse which seemed like a better bet, Element and 3+ have since proven to be fine digital beacons

Pulse [HTML_REMOVED] Element look the same/use the same harness, IME the harness buckles always slip which you can fix by knotting the harness or use a small safety pin, I have taken to just putting the beacon in my pocket which is also less hassle if you are screwing with different layers of clothing

At that price which in this sale is almost the same as an element …get the pulse
