unless you got somebody watching the fence its not that much hardy to go over than a rope
It's not the fact that it's easier or harder, people just have a different mental perspective of jumping over a fence vs. ducking a rope. You can see it when boundaries go from fence-line to rope-line.
Seems like there can never be too much netting and signage in a spot like that. So many people out there. Even with all the news coverage of past rescues theres always gonna be someone who just doesnt know any better.
Personally if you jump the fence or duck the rope you should be on your own, personal responsibility for your actions. No need for others to rescue you from stupid.
The raw, primitive, unrefined trails that see little to no maintenance are the kinds of trails that really build skill. What kind of skills do you learn riding a trail that was made by a machine, groomed to perfection and void of any rocks, roots or other obstacles that could send you careening over the handlebars?

That's just it. The shear numbers of people out there. It's actually not as bad as the media makes it out to be. How many NSSR operations were undertaken in 2016 compared to say Fentanyl OD cases?

It's a fine line… What do we deem unprepared? Some skier falls through a snow-bridge on the shore into a creek… no ropes for self rescue a few meters down into the snowpack. His fault because he's unprepared, do we just leave him?
Sure it's not the same… but it's because we all know better. Sure the '10 essentials' are a good starting point, but who are we to say 'their fault, leave them'. Unless that is what we say 100% of the time…
props to the NSSAR, serious amount of time commitment for those folks.
Was the car broken down and they are safe in the city? Are they out on an overnight camp in the snow? Does any of their family or friends know what their plan is/was? At least they aren't "out of bounds."

NSR running grids in the chopper all over Cypress today looking for these two. Cant be good - its been cold and wet and they're been out for a few days.
The chopper passed over me about 10 times this aft in the lower Cypress forests.

Good times when that happened when I was riding with you on Blackcomb a few seasons back. Clinging to the side of Blackcomb Glacier Rd Cat-track after the snow disappeared underneath my board. Thanks to those Euros for pulling me to safety; after a photo of course! :lol:

Id volunteer but Im more likely to aggravate the problem and require rescue myself than help!
I checked out the volunteering process and it seems, and it makes perfect sense, you should have experience mountaineering!

I dunno the level of skill on the North Shore I am assuming it is pretty high but I wonder if given the proximity to a large city the needs for SAR are just too busy/too complex/too full on for a voly SAR and so there should probably be at least some fulltime paid pro's
but high skills [HTML_REMOVED] conditioning are not always the case especialy in smaller towns and area's, Aaron Teasdale an award winning outdoor writer from Missoula wrote a good artical (which I can't find)about SAR and how often while voly SAR are keen they lack the skills [HTML_REMOVED] conditioning to actualy do the job and he wrote about having Snow rangers, guys who get out there and are skilled
