I went up to Cypress on friday night and managed to miss most of the rocks. It was raining down low with heavy flakes up top. I didn't complain, because slush is way better than ice.
Hit up Seymour yesterday and had a blast. Again, there is very little snow and the lanes get narrow in spots. Plus I hit probably every rock out there. But again it was a good time. The weather was great once you got above the fog.
Bottom line, hop on a beater board and shred what we have. The 14 day forecast is calling for 8 degrees on average with rain. That won't leave much snow :(
good thing the bike riding is great right now is all i can say. my cypress pass is not getting the workout i had hoped for this season.
I predict this will be the norm unfortunately.

time for them to start re-thinking opening that bike park again! embrace the global warming.
Cypress could open the bike park again. Doubt Parks would allow it on Seymour.

Oh man. Could you imagine.

"Lynn noted that ski resorts are looking long-term and realize that they may need snowmaking and other activities such as mountain biking to survive."

Buddy at Seymour was telling me that the management wants to go with mountain biking, but it's going to take some time to get parks on board with it. Right now they're pushing for more summer hiking traffic, but without the lifts they're not going to get all those fat and lazy tourist dollars like Grouse does.
I'd love to see a local, lift equipped mtn bike option in the summer. For those days when I just can't justify the 200km to Whistler.
The local mountains could provide lift accessed riding to an enormous amount of terrain. Especially if there were lifts from below the ski zone and a few collector tracks to funnel riders back to the lifts.

The biggest problem is going to be Parks. I'm sure the resorts want to bring in more traffic year round, but building trails within the parks is going to be the biggest hurdle (trails outside of the resort boundary)

Why slag free swag?
ummm, as your doctor i recommend against riding with a scaphoid fracture.
I heard something along the lines it cost them roughly the same amount to build the lift access park as it did to build espresso. I could be totally out to lunch, and I am also assuming that statement doesn't factor in the ops, maintenance/trail crew + patrol costs.

I hear the costs to run a bike park pale in comparison to running a ski hill. Trail maintenance is a pittance in comparison to snow making and snow cats for grooming plus more patrol for the larger area of skiing, more staff for skiers etc.
I understand that Grouse does well with hiking and walking tourists and they don't want bikers in the mix. Seymour and Cypress are provincial parks too though so perhaps more restrictions?
Debate? Bikes are made for riding not pushing.
