they also moved the road closure to 7 am from 6am with sucks for pre work laps.
they could just close the road until 8 and really bone the backcountry users
My boss went touring over christmas and had a "discussion" with the guy, who manages the resort, about parking at 6:30 am in the cypress lot. Sounds like they're tired of people filling up the lot for paying resort customers. Sadly a paid lot might be the solution here. If cypress bowl really owns the lease on the lot for its customers then it should be recognizing an income generator.

Not sure that I feel overly enthusiastic about an operator who has been granted the privilege of running a business in BC Parks (public land) and restricting reasonable access to other areas of the park to back country users.
Recently I was stopped there with a group of riders on fat bikes and told that not only we couldn't hang around the resort but the road up to cypress would be closed by 11pm. Fat bike jokes aside, I don't think this is ok.
You shoulda pulled a Squagles and told him to hit the bricks!

even NSR has posted the BC Parks announcement on their page as an "FYI". their primary concern being safety of course. but we all know, people who use the backcountry before 9am are more likely to be the ones who know how to use the backcountry. the ones who tend to need NSR are those who leave in the middle of the day or head out to watch the sunset at St Marks with one piddly torch.
it's pretty obvious what they're doing and Seymour does the same. we went up at 8am on sunday and had to park about 1km down on the road. i don't mind the extra distance, but they just need to be transparent. also, if parking is the issue, lots of ways to mitigate against that. have some paid parking (that you get reimbursed if you buy a lift ticket), have reserved parking etc.
but don't say it's for avalanche and grooming danger. that is some bullshit.

Solution is to have a 100% no exceptions requirement for snow tires to drive up past the look-out switchback :). I do understand the frustration of the business, but I don't know what percentage of people parking are contributing zero revenue and accessing the backcountry (which is their right). The last time I was up XC skiing, there were hundreds and hundreds of idiots playing in the snowbanks and powerline cut who likley didn't spend a dime and just wanted to see the snow.
Seriously though, the 9am restriction is absolutely ridiculous.
Can't say I'm suprized.

" I went up there this morning and they had a woman stationed by that sign, requiring anyone with snowshoes to have a yellow backcountry sticker. We had to walk back down to the old lodge and find a sticker roll (there was no person there and no registration so I have no idea what the point of the sticker is). There was also a guy telling us where we were and weren't allowed to walk and making it sound like a big deal (we were just going through to the eagle bluffs trail). He was all, "we'll let it go today since we're not busy but on the weekend…." "
