Anyone ever done one?
I'm going to be in Revelstoke with some of my guys for the Family Day weekend (with no family!) and one of the guys suggested we get a heli ride into the Monashees.
I've never done it and not sure it's worth the $$.
Thoughts?

Whether it is worth it depends on the cost, your expectations, the conditions you get dropped into, and what sort of exit route you'll have to deal with to get back to your vehicle.

I did a drop on Rainbow Mtn. several years ago which was totally worth the $75 per person for a day trip. A short flight, great snow on the glacier, and an easy exit via the Rainbow Lake Trail makes it a pretty popular drop.

I've also been dropped at a remote cabin, spent a week skiing, and then done a 35km traverse to get back to the road. Again, totally worth it since we had great snow and stable avy conditions. One of the best trips I've ever done.

Yeah, hey thanks for the offer, but it looks like I need to work on my jumping-from-the-paraglider landings first.
But you're first on my call list once I get that mastered.

I can't tell if you're serious? If you are, well, count me in.

Freedom hater….but I guess less than an annual trip to Whistler from Europe? ;)

You would have to find a local guide with the hook up… Probably spendy
Better yet just try and get on standby for the day with a heli ski outfit.

Helicopter pilots are responsible for you when they drop you in the middle of no where. They have to know your route out etc. in case you go missing.

I used to do drops in Whistler 10 years ago, because I was luckily in the inner circle with Blackcomb patrol. The local heli outfit would drop us on Rainbow, Currie etc. Was pretty awesome, could ski right to my doorstep in Alpine.
I heard that is a not happening any more but could be wrong.

Hope it works out.
