176th Street aka the truck crossing.

Typically the wait times are shorter, but if it’s less than a 10 minutes difference then just stick with Peace Arch

Aldergrove is usually the shortest line ups. Depends what time of day you hit the border...unfortunately Friday is the worst day to cross.

Enjoy Moab. Make sure you load up with beer in Idaho.

i gather one can look at their gadget en route and get this info?  how far from PA is the truck crossing?

Peace Arch is 10 minutes or less from the truck crossing (Hwy 15).   The Aldergrove crossing doesnt open until 8 a.m.

looking at the google maps, i'm amazed to see 0 Avenue, is a street that runs right along the border if my eyes are not deceiving me.

the whole border thing boggles my mind and i'm totally ignorant. so is there a big fence there? are there houses on either side of the street, in each country?  can anyone just walk back and forth at any time?

there's no fence but it's monitored for illegal crossings and separated from the US by a ditch along most (all?) of it's length so you can just drive through. it's possible to just walk across but not at all advised to do so. it's mostly farmland or woodland but in some spots there are houses, but it's not like a residential street or anything.

ps unless the wait at PA is over an hour there is no point at all in driving out to aldergrove.

^^This. Going through the Lower Mainland from Victoria, you are going a fair bit north, to then have to make it up going south again. Also anything you can do to avoid the traffic gong show around Seattle. Its a 20 hour trip so plan on spending overnight somewhere unless you have a few drivers. We ended up in Twin Falls, ID for our stop.

After the Cascades the drive sucks pretty bad until you get south of SLC.

Travel tip road tripping in the USA. Every town has a Mexican Restaurant which is usually an adequate meal, no matter how crap the town.

Last time to Moab we stayed the night in Glenn's Ferry. There is a state campsite there, food in town was fine.

The Gilberto's Burrito place across the road from Moab Cyclery is killer, 5 out of 5 sombreros , just no beer for sale :(

The alcohol situation isn't as bad as most people make it out to be. I think the rules may have changed recently. I had margaritas at one of the Mexican restaurants in Moab. Beer is in the grocery stores. But I think it's all like 3%, there might be a rule about that I can't remember
