I'm looking to hit up Leavenworth and Winthrop for a couple days of riding.

Interested in info on must hit 5 star trails and the dreaded 1 star avoid trails, in the medium to long XC and AM bracket.

Camping and good grub info welcome as well.

Many Thanks!

Cutthroat Pass west of Winthrop is a must and will fill your xc/am need. Its an in and out ride to the top of the pass. Awesome views. But try to keep in mind it is a multi-use trail on the flowy descent.

Winthrop is going to be a tough game this year, particularly if you’re looking to hit it up in August (or even September likely). The Okanogan has been hit hard with the biggest fires in Washington State history. You can see the affected zones here. The area is pretty devastated, and many of the best rides (i.e. Angels) are extremely close to active fires. I’m leaving for Winthrop Friday and am planning to ride Tiffany Mtn and Buck Mtn, as they’re well North of active fires. Cutthroat will be rideable as well. I’m not really sure what shape Leavenworth is in, but there have been fires there as well. From a quick look at the map, it looks like Xanadu would be fine.

^^^Yup. Some friends were down in that area 2 weeks ago and everything was closed for fires. Leavenworth the town was under emergency conditions w/ no power/etc. Best to look into that before making the drive down

Probably worth the time to call local bike shops in the area to see how bad the smoke is. We drove through Osoyoos a couple of weeks ago and the smoke blowing up the Okanagan Valley from the Washington fires was so thick you could taste it. Similar to standing downwind from a campfire.

For WA trail info, check out the Evergreen Mtn Bike Alliance trail guide here: http://trails.evergreenmtb.org/wiki/Main_Page

Thank you everyone!

I called the bike shop in Leavenworth and they said the fire is not an issue there, trails are not effected.

On the active fire map (great link btw), not looking good in Winthrop at the moment.

Will push the trip back to later next week, might be better conditions then.

So keep the info coming!

:)
