Hi folks,

This thread is for the Cumby Campout [and Ride!] 2025. We'll be basing out of the Comox Lake Campground. You don't need to camp there, but that's where all the action will start and stop.

Campsites

201 - ?

202 - Vik

203 - ?

204 - ?

Checkout is 11am so we'll need to be packed up before the ride starts Sunday.

Schedule

Fri 30 May - TBD

Sat 31 May - 10am Ride Cumberland

Sun 1 June - 10am Ride Cumberland

Meet up Sat & Sun at the bathrooms at the campground and plan to roll out at 10am. If you want to skip the ride to the trails you can drive and meet us at the yellow gate near the main trailhead at 1020am.

There will likely be something happening Fri. Let's see who will be there early that day and what interest levels are then we'll figure out a plan. We'll definitely get a campfire hangout in that evening.

Riding

This will be a social ride. If you can ride ~3hrs with breaks, manage black diamond trails [not hard compared to the Shore], and climb ~500m you'll be fine. No plans to go crazy fast and we'll stop to gather the troops and keep everyone together. Once we see who shows up and how everyone is feeling we'll fine tune the ride to suit the group. We'll end up at Bibliotaco or Cook's Burgers post-ride for refreshments.

Travel

I'm local to the area. If you need any help with logistics like a ride from the airport or something like that let me know and we'll figure it out.

We can't book campsites for May 2025 until early March 2025. I will post a message here when that's available so you can jump on a site if you are keen.

Word gets out fast. I mean FS bikes are fine. I'll have some 5 min epoxy for their shocks so you can still be an honourary hardtailer.  ;-)

Are folks keen on another edition of this event in 2025? Let me know.

We already have the thread for it, it would be a waste otherwise.

If it does happen, I might be persuaded to stay at the campground this year...

I'll post a reminder message in early March when we can book campsites.

I'm down in Ladysmith now, so I'm tempted to join in, depending on what's going in my life at the time. I'll lurk here appropriately, as plans solidify.

Last year we managed to get the whole corner of the campground and certainly had room to spare, I imagine we'll be able to arrange something similar this year. If we collectively book the corner again and you don't know what you are doing by booking time in March it might not be a huge deal.

FWIW - If you book a site and then cancel 7 days before the reservation starts it only costs you $10. So if you think you want to join you can book and change your mind later.

Lots of time still and I'll bring a few tubes of 5 minute epoxy for those folks that need some DIY hardtails.
