Chilcotins - Spruce Lake

That should be 17 campers as the typical ride was 1-5 people and different groups did different things.

Even at camp generally 4-5 people were hanging out together and then folks would wander from one campsite to the other and mix things up.

The big group worked out way better than I had expected.:agree:

The Chilcotins continue to impress.

Excellent! We stuffed ourselves, with some of us (not me) having three full courses :)

We keep going back. Fresh snow on the mountains this morning.

Saw five grizzlies in two days including this youngster about 100 ft away.

i've seen a couple of blog/photo posts of people riding in the chilcotins with dogs. i think its officially forbidden, or is that only for specifics area?

edit: bc parks page says dogs should not be taken into the park

The "South Chilcotin Mountains Park" is a somewhat smaller than the old "Spruce Lake Protected Area" signs would indicate.

A lot of areas people think are in the park actually aren't as they weren't included when the protected areas was turned into a park are now called "Mining [HTML_REMOVED] Tourism Areas". (Great mix of uses…)

The interesting one is that hunting is allowed in the park.

Why is that so interesting??? Hunters and horse (I guess in those days it was the same thing) are one of the first users of that park. We should thank them for the trails.

well for one its interesting because a reason given that dogs shouldn't be in the park is "in consideration of wildlife"; what could be less considerate of something than shooting at it?

I'm gonna put the horse people fourth:

1. Game
2. Chilcotin First Nation people (if you head in to the Chilcotin from the Williams Lake side, you are likely to meet them)
3. Prospectors
4. People using horses for all sorts of purposes

We should thank them for the trails.

haha chatted with some horse packers when i there in the spring - they were saying that everyone should be thanking the mtb'ers for the trails! its all love

yeah, i had a closer look at the new maps and boundaries last night. i think the loops we're planning all at least cut through the park. still tempted to bring the hound
