I'm heading to Hood River this weekend with a load of Windsurf buddies… I was going to take my bike along as I'm not a windsurfer (though I might go do some sailing)…

Anyway does anyone know if there's some good mellow singletrack for some flowing good vibes?

Ask the local bike shop about Post Canyon. It's 5 mins out of town. They've unofficially dubbed it "The South Shore". The log jam section has all sorts of stuff built on it. There is also a good flow section with drops and A-frames. You'll need to talk to the hard cores to find the 20 ft gappers though. You can make it a mellow ride if you want to though. Also you might want to see if the Sincline trail on the Washington side is still doable. It's a good 30-40 minute down-hill. You can fly strait down the grass fields if you can hang or try stayin on the trail for max difficulty. There is a "little moab" section near the bottom where you can find anything from 5-20 foot drops off of rock faces. Awsome views at the top of the river valley. Kinda frieky riding along a 300 ft cliff. It was shuttleable the last time I was there but people with big houses are moving in and putting up no trespassing signs so you might have to ride up. Enjoy!

Posty Canyon is sick for all stunted riding it has all sorts of beginner stuff to huge drops and gaps. Syncline is sick as well cause you can go as fast as you want. One thing though if its windy on the river I would opt for posty cause its protected and syncline can get a little hairy in the wind

Most of the trails were developed by motorbikes so you'll want to hook up with some locals to avoid the nasty climbs as you session the maze of trails.

ride, build, ride some more….

OH I forgot but the Gorge Freeride Association the people who build most of the stunted trails in post canyon just released a map of the areas which includes all the trails in the area, even the newest ones.( which are sick by the way)

This might be the summer I take the bikes and the boards down for when the wind dies down. Anyone in the HR area up for some riding?

Hey all,

I am heading down to Hood River and am looking for some recommendations as to where to ride, eat, drink and sleep. And I am not looking for any XC, fast food or bed and breakfasts.

Thanks,

Ride the trails while they are still here.

Andrew's Pizza at the Skylight theatre has the best calzones hands down. Plus if you stay for a movie, they serve you beer [HTML_REMOVED] food during the flick! Better service than what I get at home. Gotta check out Mike's Ice Cream, hands down the most popular place on a summer night in Hood.

Check out Full Sail for tasting hours too.

We always camp at Tuckers campground. The bathrooms are always clean and the park is pretty darn quiet at night.

We never ride(bikes)in Hood, only go for the sailing. However, the bike shops are super friendly and will definitely send you in the right direction.

send a pm to eknomf - he's ridden down there quite a bit and can likely recommend where to go.

Stop in at Discovery Bicyles to get a map of area trails and some advice:

We stopped in Hood River on Canada Day on our way back from a road trip and stopped in at Discovery bikes for advice. They offered up lots of good advice and we opted for flowy singletrack near Mt.Hood.
If you want freeride instead, they recommended Post Canyon. (http://www.discoverbicycles.com/freeriderides.cfm)

For nice (usually free) camping spots, Forest service campsites are great, but they usually have no amenities aside from an outhouse.

If you are in hood river you want to ride Post Canyon and Syncline. Both are awesome - Post Canyon has lots of stunts and jumps and Syncline has some amazing long downhills(ride the trails on both sides of the road). There is also a dh trail from timberline up on Mt hood that goes down a long ways (I think it is like 10 or 15 miles of dh).

If you are going to be down there for a while I would also recommend you check out Falls City which is a bit over an hour south of Portland.

For a place to stay my suggestion is camping up at Post Canyon. There are lots of nice spots by the upper trails accessed off Binns Hill Drive. For food, pretty much the only place I ever go in hood river is the taco place in the trailer park - it is really good despite looking pretty sketchy. It is called
El Rinconsito Taqueria.

Yeah, what Eknomf (I rode Post with you once when you pooched your old DJ fork on your HT) said Post Canyon and Syncline are great, and while you'er at it, head up the backside of the mountain and ride the Glade trail down from Timberline. Oregon is beautiful right now, it's a little dry/dusty and kinda loose, but it's awsome riding for sure.

Stupidity…For me it's job security ;)
