There's a triple crown in Nelson too and the latest news is that it's going to be longer and tougher than every race you've ever done combined. Fer real.

Don't get too skinny, you'll need the fat reserves and padding in your ass to survive.

Last james told me it was going to be a poker run with cards at the top of each mountain and a few bonus cards for riding nasty trails on the way down.

Has anyone at NeRG leaked the course? Are they putting it on again?

Probably, the course is usually up giveout-down high baller and placenta, up mountain station-down the vein, up svboda-down paper bag. There's no set course, just checkpoints so you can kinda make your own route up.

Sounds similar to the past. The ride, though pretty fair in stature, isn't too big a deal. It's more the cast of ride dogs who show up at the doorstep when you step out on the porch and snap the ride fingers loud enough.

Might be there in fact…

Let's see. That would be Iditabike, Muffaloose Challenge, La Ruta de Conquistadores, Death Ride, a 100 miler in Clearwater and lots of different Marathons and Enduros combined. So that would make it about 20,000 km, temperature extremes from -50C to +40C, mud so thick that your bike would weight 100lb, altitudes higher than 14,000 ft, hail with hurricane force wind, locals trying to steel your bike or mug you, mosquitos so thick that you need to pack SCBA, go through a few dumps, devious trail marking to lead you off cliffs, and no check points or aid stations.
Sounds like fun

Taprider seems worthy of the phreek badge….

Along those lines… I met the guy who started the Iditabike one day last summer. He was out for a 'little morning run' up the nearly 6000ft climb up Icicle Ridge in Leavenworth. He had just returned from a bike tour of the 50 states but had to throw in the towel when his bike got pinched in Vegas or LA I think it was. The guy had ridden 84 out of 90 days and had racked up close to 10,000 miles in the process…. ph-rrrr-eeeeeek indeed!

the 100miler in clearwater only occurred in 1989
THe first stage was 100 miles, mainly logging roads, but finished going straight down a ski run (tall grass hiding rocks and ditches).
Lumpy and Kris Oetter (or was it Shroom?) were tied to the ski hill, and they ended up sprinting straight down the fall line from top to bottom. Second day was trials, widow maker hill climb and dual slalom, and total points for all events determined the winner.
One of the prizes was a helicopter ride with psycho ex-Viet Nam pilot/war vet (I don't think the pilot is alive anymore)
