Test of Metal now takes almost 2 weeks to sell out!
Last year was 2 days
years before was 2 hours or faster

Do I see a trend?

Will NIMBY eventually surpass TOM for participation?

Looks like a repeat of the Cheakamus Challenge.
Every race has its heyday then begins to disappear.

World champion friend told me that races tend to run on a 6-7 year popularity cycle til they are bust. Test has had a long run, but it looks like it is starting to fade. He also said that after 6-7 years organizers have to rebrand/reinvent the races to try to reinvigorate participation.

Past examples -
Tough mudder, Gran Fondo, MOMAR, all had their moment in the sun.

Curious to see how well the enduro's and races like BC bike race do over time. Pretty sure bc bike race can have a very long run of success.

Oh! I have a test ticket to give away! Just blew my ACL

Riders should be required to shotgun a beer before the mass start. Then at the finish before their time counts.

21 and done. this year's the last one. think of it what you will but the Test had a good run and did a lot of great things for Squamish.

weren't they still getting good turn outs? I can't say I ever wanted to participate more than the once I did, personally.

I think that the entry fee of $95 has scared some away. I know when it went up, I almost didn't register and a bunch of my friends felt the same way. Still in for my 8th or so go at it.

interesting decision then. I know that they had talked about mixing up the course last year, but decided against it. for me it's just not fun trying to ride a course with that many people on it.

Any course that you come to a complete stop because of a bottle neck section sux.
The mass start is fun, the rest… meh too crowded.

IMC ten years ago had no online sign up, you had to go to Penticton and get in line to sign up at 4 am on the monday after the race. Now that they moved it to Whistler it doesn't even sell out. No one cares anymore, funny how that works.

It's not just the test that is done. Also gear jammer, ore crusher and JABR.
