R.I.P. Mark Reynolds

"Mark Reynolds, 48, died in a bicycle accident at The Sea Otter Classic Downhill race on Saturday, April 19. Mark was the founder of Wicked Racin, a high end bike drivetrain company specializing in chain guides for down hill bikes. Mark was an icon in the Norcal biking scene and was a friend to many, many cycling enthusiasts.

On a fast section at the end of his downhill race run, Mark failed to negotiate a narrow bridge and crashed into a dirt embankment, suffering severe injuries. Some suspect that Mark might have experienced a medical problem since the section where he crashed is very simple for a rider of Mark

really sad i dont think i could race if i knew someone just got seriously injured on the course right before my start time

Thats horrible. Atleast he was doing something that he loved when he went.

I met Mark briefly at Interbike. Seemed like a solid guy.

Always sad to hear about/read about a fallen rider. My condolences to those that Mark left behind.

Wow, what a tragedy. Yet, I can't help thinking it's a beautiful ending when someone gets to live their last minutes doing exactly what they love. And If I know Mark, he was probably doing it very well.

I only rode with Mark once, but it was a full day of Northstar last summer. Mark was very friendly and helpful, refusing to leave me and do a run when I flatted twice. He even took a turn on the pump. He also flew all day long, giving me and my grad-student buddy a run for our money from first run through last, killing livewire and hitting all the drops. But what I remember best is his wicked moustached grin after every run, as he talked about the highs and lows of the last five minutes like an excited teenageer.
