I'm in again, last year definitely whet my whistle and I have to beat 3 hours this year, oh so close last year!

Someone tell me it's sold out so I don't have to decide if I should or shouldn't do it again to meet that 3hr goal I set after the last time it beat me down.

I don't race. Anymore. But a friend of mine wants to do this and suggested carpooling is more sustainable, and therefore I should go.

Shirk, talk me into/out of this.

Pros - it's a mountain bikers xc race
Cons - it'll hurt

Shirk,

If I'm doing it then you should too.

Plus it's longer than when you had the 3hr goal so it'll be even more of a challenge!

For me, it was a story of pain… was sick the two weeks leading up to it (and not quite healthy on race day). Prerode the back half the day before. This contributed to a pretty miserable day! I was basically redlined for the first 2 1/2 hours, the rest is a blur… but a long long blur. Couldn't get food down… huge GI distress late in the race. Flash forward to the end flat gravel stretch to the finish where I'm pedaling with one leg cuz my other one is cramped and I refuse to get off the bike. As I pedal past the finish line, I hear someone say "there are still people out there? wow!". Haha, I definitely want to redeem myself.. was a great course overall!

This is a real legit XC race. I also rode ToM and Gearjammer… not even near as difficult as this race!

I'd like to get on the age grouper podium just once but the problem is the older guys are faster than the younger guys!

my main problem is that I refuse to 'train' or ride a road bike, trails are just too much fun :)

My main problem is as long as I come away with some good stories/new friends and I finish before the beer runs out I'm happy. :)

Want to do it again this year but not sure if I'll be in good enough shape with everything going on. Are entries transferable?

Cheers,

what is this the why I suck at the nimby excuse thread ;) where is the trash talking. I am going to make Flip blead out of his eyes this year. ha. I am on the fence this year due to timing of things. but if it all works out I would like to crack 3 hours and not explode on the back half.

Just a speculative fiction. No cause for alarm.

I only let up to let you think you were reeling me in last year, then crushed your puny soul at the end! ;)

on that theme Platinum time should be the average of the winners' times for the last 5 years + 42:00
that would be 2:09:17 + 0:42:00 = 2:51:17
also works since last years winner (Max Plaxton) was 6 minutes slower than the 2013 winner, or 6 minutes slower than his winning time in 2012, so add 6 minutes to the 2013 Platiumum time (2:45:00 + 0:06:00) = 2:51:00 (but the extra 17 seconds would make a big difference to 3 guys)
However, comparing the average borderline 2:45 to sub 3 hour racers that have raced last year and previous years, the extra length works out to about 7 minutes longer
