I edited this to reflect a more recreational approach ie. my 4h30m - 5h00m finish. In some way I envy those that can pack all the pain and suffering into half the time.
Quick summary
[HTML_REMOVED] Steep gravel road climb at the start to the Radio tower. Probably 30-42 minutes or so. Expect lots of dust. The downhill sure is fun!
[HTML_REMOVED] Happy trail, whole bunch of switchbacks, horribly steep momentum sucking twists and dips. You're either alone at this point, or walking up with a few others.
[HTML_REMOVED] Nimby climb - more and more switchbacks. Expect to walk a bunch of this. You're probably running low on water, but don't worry because the feed station at the parachute launch will only have cola and red-bull to drink. Maybe some watermelon that the rest of the riders ahead of you didn't want to eat.
[HTML_REMOVED] Short gravel climb up to Overnight Sensation. Only one or two spots where you might hike a bike. Don't expect there to be anyone manning the Red Bull timing booth when you get there for your descent.
[HTML_REMOVED] Hike up to sphincter. On the way you'll pass a deserted food/water station. In between walking, you'll likely shed a few tears or be suffering from heat exhaustion - or both.
[HTML_REMOVED] Hike up to No Err (after the overlap). This part really hurts your soul. Halfway up this climb you'll feel as bad as the day your first pet died.
[HTML_REMOVED] The climb back up to the overlap (after No Err). You'll actually wind up thinking that this last feed station is the end..but really it's just the beginning of the end.
[HTML_REMOVED] The railroad tracks. Just lie down across them and wait for the suffering to end. Or continue the 2-3km to the finish.
