I have tried quite a few big travel bikes over the years but the last 2 I have been riding a Glory DH. When it came out in 06 although the shock through the frame was beef cake, I knew it was a sick design and the bike just looked like it would work good. For me I have found nothing that corners like a Glory on trails. It has super low cetre of gravity, the shock, pivots, alot of the frame weight is all super low. The bike also has way better standover than it looks once you get on it theres is alot of room for your knees and legs. But I totally agree with JW, geometry, weight, suspension design functionality is key. The Shocker to me seems like a real similar design, but the one thing it may have over the Glory is wheelbase. The glory dh's wheelbase I believe is a little short for a full on ideal racer. On high speed steeper terrain the Glory gets a little sketch if you are not really focussed on keeping your weight very far back on the bike. Where as some other longer slacker designs are more designed for speed and steepness.
This all being said the "ideal" frameset in my eyes right now would be the '09 or'10 (release???) Turner DHR dw-link. This thing has a pedal efficient design similar to maestro, crazy low looking centre of gravity, long and slack, and turner craftsmanship and race heritage. So ya it looks like it has alot.
