it was interesting to see a bunch of americans suddenly break into the top 10 in colorado. aaron bradford and adam craig probably have a lot more experience riding in colorado/at altitude than some of the european pros, and joey schusler is from there i think.

whistler is going to bring out another group of locals with the chops to give enduro pros a run for their money. iirc kevin phelps won the 4th stage of the kings, which this round is basically a replica of, on a f#[HTML_REMOVED]$ing hardtail. if he can make top 10 or take a stage this weekend flying his chromag colors he's going to blow some minds

for sure - looking forward to seeing how the local talent stacks up - and, on the flip side, how well the foreigners perform with only a relatively brief exposure to the trails. hoping for a lengthly parkin bros edit.

It does look like a pie plate in the back.

What gear ratios you running Jon?

I am debating between my 26/36 front or 26/34 mated to the 11-36. The 26/36 was good for Kings, but I had many many more miles in my legs. For the Unduro that 24 granny was sure nice to be able to spin the legs up the steep logging road to Gargamel. I can really only think of one spot on the 5th stage that I might spin out of the 34/11 ratio.

32/42T at the moment. I have the option of going 30/42T or even 28/42T, but I find that the smaller chainrings are no use for the DH stages (especially stage 5). If I can't get up it in 32/42T I might as well walk [HTML_REMOVED] save some energy!

that would be sick. they missed colorado as it was the same weekend as valnord. actually there were a lot of media folks who missed rd 4. this weekend will also see a wc race in msa… but it is crankworks, so who knows

You missed it, they split duties, one did Valnord and one did Colorado.

Same thing happening for Crunkwerx, of them out here and one across the country in PQ.

Pretty sure I read that Sven Martin is planning to be in PQ so we'll get the second string again like in Colorado. A shame as Sven does the best coverage with his slide shows and audio.

I have not ridden Rick's yet. Is it any steeper/worse than South Flank?

a few pitches that are similar, but a few breaks in slope along the way too….just steady, and it'll be hot, stay on top of your fluids!

created a strava segment for reference….http://www.strava.com/segments/5029137
gate on alpine way to lookout is just over 4km, 400m elevation gain, avg grade of 9% but with a bunch in the 20-30% range….

and south flank to pura vida….http://www.strava.com/segments/5029245

First time I ever rode the South Flank was for the Jacks, I was completely blown before even starting the climb. By the steep portion I wanted to curl up on the side and die.

Are riders required to wear full face helmets throughout the entire race (including the transition stages)? Couldn't imagine wearing one of those up the climbs during the 30+ degree heat.
