I think they have some affiliation with the UCI And cycling Canada after all they did get the Bmx worlds supercross to Abbotsford and I think even a Provincial Body has a surprising amount of pull.Lets just hope so

Yes, but cycling bc won't be the ones doing the work to put on the super cross, that will be abbotsford bmx. Cycling bc is just a sanctioning body. I

If cycling bc was petitioning the uci for a world cup, I would imagine someone has already stepped up to organize the event. I would assume its a resort. That wasn't in the news story?

Normally when clubs put on races,it's the club that does the work.
In the case of the Abbotford BMX supercross, Cycling BC has and will continue to do the heavy lifting.
Adam Muys of CBC is very dedicated (he is also the trackbuilder for indoor BMX/4X) but at the end of the day ,it's Keith Ryan CEO of CBC who deserves a lot of credit. Cycling BC has supported AbbotsfordBMX and been instrumental in coming up with money to finish off the only Supercross hill in Canada.
Come this exciting event Sept 14/15th ,
CBC will be there to make sure the event goes successfully.
I expect most all of their staff will be on hand to do whatever needs to be done, working beside AbbyBMX. While this Supercross event is just after the Olympics, CBC has already secured another Supercross event for 2013.
Steve Baxter and the whole small executive of Abby BMX joined by other BMX clubs along side of CyclingBC will be working hard. Dreams can and do happen.
The little kids eyes will be big,and they won't be alone.

WC schedule was already announced for 2013. No BC stop that I could see. There sounds like there might be a stop somewhere in china though.

The rumour mill at SunPeaks today was Whistler was asked by UCI to host the weekend before Crankworx, then politics got involved and it isn't happening next year. A Whistlerite I spoke too was half expecting to see it on the calendar as he hadn't heard the final word of the local cycling body involved and the resort. Too bad. :(

hol-ee shit but that's a big hole

Whistler won't do a WC cause we got crankworx. Pretty stupid reason if you ask me.

I can't belive there is not a world race on the hills somewhere in b.c.That would be amazing to see and bring in some money and tourism .Should be part of the uci season. why not cypress ?

pretty sure it all comes down to $$$
UCI would want a whole chunk of change from Whistler to host the event, where as im pretty sure the coverage wouldnt really do much for Whistler. Most people who are interested enough to follow the WC circuit already know what Whistler is.

i wonder if that was the reason they started doing all that work on canadian open…

works been done FOR the Canadian Open, which is gonna be gnarly, the jumps coming into the finish are burly, haven't seen what is being done in the woods below the chairline section but I imagine steep, roots and more gnarl….

XC world cup race in Stanley park could be cool or maybe a CX race?
