BC Bike Race - Don't Stop Believing!!
Pretty entertaining for a Sunday morning, got good buy in on the making of that… :)
Man, so many 29ers! Hardly saw a little wheeled bike throughout the coverage. Makes a lot of sense for endurance riding I suppose.

Yes almost everyone is riding a 29 as it is the fastest over this kind of route. Few 650B's as well but for speed the 29'R is the ruler and most of these people come from elsewhere where 29'r rule. I have been telling people for 4 years to do the race with a seat dropper post as well, this year we saw the most of those too and a number of people who wish they had one…the right bike makes this race fun, the wrong one makes it a pain in the ass and back! A bunch of single speed fully rigid bikes too, ouch! Looks like the race is 50% sold out already and we are only a couple of hours into registration for 2014….if you love riding and racing your bike through some of the best riding in the world…this is a must do event!

^Im surprised people keep showing up with the single-speed bikes. I wonder if it is crazy yankee doodles down converting meters into feet
How many 1x11 setups did you see? Was Snedon on 1x11? I can't see many people choosing it due to the sheer amount of kms and meters climbed in 7 straight days.
Has anyone ever told you they get lost in your smokey blue eyes?
Why slag free swag?
ummm, as your doctor i recommend against riding with a scaphoid fracture.
Has anyone ever told you they get lost in your smokey blue eyes?
I've often wondered…..

not too many single speeds, some awesome dudes that did the race in one of the first or second years came back…they wore jean tights again on the last stage, awesome! Yes there were a few 1x11 and my friend eric goodwin of squamish rode 1x10 shimano…it can be done, all depends what your goals are for the race….

are most people on dedicated race bikes, steep head angled 100mm travel rigs? 2.0 tires? i would think it would be more enjoyable on a full trail bike, and maybe faster on some segments, but then, i've merely dabbled in racing at best, what do i know.

Maybe 20-30 percent if that are all race biked out. Not always of choice but preference at home.
Lots of trail bikes mixed in.

You would be surprised how much some bikes are worth! I made a post several years ago as we started to see so many damaged bikes, broken frames, seat posts etc.
The top guys can run xtr and lightweight set ups cause they are smooth and avoid hitting parts on stuff. But for the majority xt, slx or zee is better as it is designed to take the hits on roots, rock etc.
Some guys think the only way they will do well is with the lightest weight weenie bike but after the first hard day they are usually thinking or rather wishing they brought a 26-28 pound 4 and 4 with a seat dropper and strong wheels….we will do a video on it in the future as the right bike matching to your reality in goals for the race is important…and hey if you not in contention for the podium then yes use the right parts to make it FUN!

4:00 mins - one of my best friends killin it with the lip syncing!
Rode the lift today with a guy from South Africa who did the race with his brother. They were riding Garbo on the 140mm bikes they did the race on.

Haha yup, the Munnik twins. I rode with them through the race. They're both savagely fast downhillers, I took them up Fromme and couldn't keep up on the trails, even though they'd never seen them before. Oli won a few of the enduro stages including the Powerhouse Plunge by 9 seconds despite this being his first trip to North America.
The race was super fun, thanks Norona for the encouragement and entertainment!
edit: for reference I did the race on my 26" Blur LTc and had a lot more fun than all the guys on S-Works Epics, and I got some good enduro results.
