Downhill makes for good teevee. Enduro, not so much.

From the very little research I did on the subject it appears KTM bicycles do NOT have a DH bike on their website. Radon looks to have a DH bike though but mercy their bikes are ugly.

The YT Tues looks really nice I just have no desire to support the people in that company so Gwin would be a good fit there. Sell metric butt tons of YT bikes to PJ clad groms parents at no real cost reduction, because Jesus!

Jared can sell the entire Enduro line-up, Stumpy FSR and Specialized's own soft-good lineup.

This is likely the most important point (not so much the money, but what the Big S gets for the money).

Going forward I would doubt you will see any Specialized Factory Team riders, including Jared, who are not on the full program:

-Ohlins Suspension
-Specialized soft goods (shoes and helmets)
-Specialized tires/wheels
-Dropper post, cranks, other components
-Etc

Love them or hate them (or indifferent) Specialized is competitive in all these categories, so if I was them I'd want all my sponsored riders riding the full program.

i'd be surprised if yt is covering the full salary; perhaps a hybrid arrangement with someone w/ deeper pockets (ktm/yt perhaps)? the olden days of peak dh with teams like volvo/cannondale [HTML_REMOVED] mountain dew/specialized (where palmer had a $300k salary 20 yrs ago) were paying out some decent numbers.

Why wouldn't YT match his salary? I suspect given YT's business model that they can risk paying out for a premier rider, even more so than many typically large brands. Maybe he lowered his expectations a little but still ended up doubling his salary. This is all speculation of course.

Gwin's salary was really low but its still quite a bit higher than $300k from what I'm told. What he asked for went into 7 figures.

FWIW, riders generally make more money now than they did back in the Palmer era, with a few exceptions.

And for those who don't know, ktm motorsports and ktm bicycles are two very different companies. ktm bicycles licensed the name, that's all.

My Guess is this, KTM and YT joint venture. KTM has a large Bike lineup. Gwin would help grow the brand internationally.

The amount of KTM Gwin has posted lately screams KTM involvement, even if KTM Bikes and Mountain bikes remain diff companies. Perhaps Gwin will be used to help e-bike sales.

He has something going on with ktm motorcycles for riding motorcycles. He has been doing that for a few years now. Ktm bicycles is not even under the same umbrella as ktm motorcycles, as in, not even related. I'm not sure how one deal would transfer to another brand altogether. Its like saying I'm sponsored by Yamaha therefore I am sponsored by Kona.

nope, they didn't. in 1991 the original ktm went bankrupt, the remaining assets were split up into 4 different independent companies:

in 1991 KTM applied for insolvency. Its management was taken up by banks who split the company into four new entities in 1992:

KTM Sportmotorcycle GmbH, motorcycles division
KTM Fahrrad GmbH, bicycles division
KTM Kühler GmbH, radiators division
KTM Werkzeugbau GmbH, tooling division

So tired of hearing about Gwin… hopefully he shoots himself in the foot with another ill-advised team change… however, I dislike Special-Ed as a company so that doesn't bother me. Too many young up-and-coming chargers ready to stomp their authority on the WC…
