A rocky road indeed, the way UCI wants MTB to take. No 4x world cup any more.
4x has been dropped by the UCI
It is still an event at the World Championships though, just no WC overall. Not enough participants? Cost cutting by organizers? I assume that it will still be an event at World Cups at least at some venues just no WC overall to contend for. Still this does not bode well for the discipline.
I think the UCI is out of touch with reality in many instances. Their technical rules for road have become ridiculous in some instances. They have a 3:1 rule for aero tubes on road and TT bikes that were not enforcing until all of a sudden this past year. The have dimensional rules that make it difficult to impossible to fit really tall guys or short women to bikes especially tt bikes within those rules.
And having pits in XC just goes against the grain for me. It encourages manufacturers to make equipment that is too light and it's too far from the roots of mtb for my tastes.
Debate? Bikes are made for riding not pushing.

hey, they're working hard to get out of touch where they aren't already, thereby fulfilling one part of their mandate as an international sports bureaucracy (the other being to solicit bribes)

Did you read the results of the UCI survey? That was the last nail in the coffin of 4X - Seems like the only people that want it are the 4X specialist riders. It was just a matter of time.
Sustainable will be around forever.
I'm surprised it lasted this long. Its gotta be the lamest event in mountain bike racing.

word….best decision UCI has made in a long long time
Go have a look on pinkbike, all those idiots there will completely disagree with the guys here.

I admit dual was better, But it was still a fun race. Down hill is not that far away from the same fate. It is just as laim and even more boring to watch.
only 35 but still beat the 30-39 BC cup Champion 4 out of 6 races

Why are people idiots because the Like certain forms of racing? There are probably 200 or so posts about this on PB. how many here? NSMB readers dont give a shit about racing in general.

The whole premise of dh could be as lame if your opinion means anything, which it does.
However, 4x was doomed from the start. They tried to emulate bmx racing on mtb's going downhill. Except, the one thing they didn't look at was it was that once someone got the lead, that was pretty much the end of the race. It was just inherent in the course designs. Those problems don't happen in dual slalom, which would have made way more sense to keep around. Dual wasn't really a bmx'er-turned-mtb'er discipline, where anyone with good corner skills could do well.
Why would anyone in their right mind want to race 4x over bmx?
This was discussed to death a decade ago, I don't really want to rehash it again.

Because bmx is to hard.
Why would anyone race DH over XC? Drive up than ride your bike by yourself for three to five min. YEEHAAA now that is mt biking.
OH YA wasnt BMX trying to copy something?

Dear Johnie P
You entertain me!
Do you some how thrive on your own stupidity?

Have some respect.
Johnie has forgotten more than most know about these things.

XC racing at a high level takes way more dedication, that's why. Dollars spent vs actual ride time and dh racing is the biggest waste of money in cycling. I'm not one to defend dh racing.
But, at least dh involves a trail that is easily built and can be replicated most places in the world. A 4x course is not something that anyone can go out and build. A dual course is much more easily built and can be used in many more areas, something which is appealing to organizers and governing bodies.
It was good I guess they gave 4x a try, but even back then we were saying that it can't last. Way too specialized.
