I got out of VWs and into bikes because I could have a lot more bikes than cars for the same investment. I was always a bit of a wheel whore and loved to switch them up.

My last Golf, which I was really only responsible for painting these wheels goooold:

And with the Ronals:

And with borrowed snowflakes with snow tires for a trip to the Kootenays (visiting Lyle's hibernating 16v coupe):

And how I got it, purple:

Before that I had a Jetta, which I got bone stock for $1000 and dumped $5000 into. At the time that was still a better investment than the VR6 Passat that preceded it. Keizer 13x8 magnesium:

In a year and a half I think I had 15 sets of wheels on this car. BBS RZ:

I still have my B4 Passat cupholder, but haven't tried to install it in my F-Teenthousand yet…

i don't get the undersized tire / oversized rim thing. silly looks / more damage prone and performance / safety compromising (in extreme examples). perhaps i'm too pragmatic in my old age.

Om nom nom nom nom mugs….

I love wheels too! And I love the mk2 golf with the small bumpers. You had the same Ronals as I have! I need to repaint them.

Yeah cars get pretty expensive pretty quickly. But I always spent more money in bikes then cars before….

Stretched tires are very European and used to clear the fenders. I don't see the safety issue either. Drifters use stretched tires all the time to prevent the sidewalls from folding over. The real issue with stretched tires is when you have bad camber.

I had enough arguments about this years ago to know that anybody citing safety and performance hasn't spent any time on stretched tires. It's a style thing, if you don't like it that's cool. You're gonna crub your wheels if you park shittily whether you have stretched tires or not though.

My cousin in Norway has a hard-on for the 60's beetle. This was his latest project.

indeed. i typically know better than to criticise people aesthetic decisions, but my inside voice slipped out. carry on then.

now this is cool (no curbing those bad boys!). never had one, but i've always had a soft spot for clean, classically inspired beetle builds.

That matte black on green if friggen amazing. Best VW colour combo I've seen in ages.

If I win the lotto I'd do a Syncro Westy in the same colour scheme.

My dad's friend had a Beetle I remember riding around on gravel roads in when I was about 6. I'll have to see if I can track down a photo of it.
