Skiing World Record Cliff Drop

In April last year Jamie Pierre's 255 foot world record cliff drop was broken. By a norweigan man, Fred Syverson when filming for a Euro big mountain movie. Here is a link to the footage… http://www.nrk.no/nyheter/1.6330405

Just so it is known, this line was hit accidentally. (Hence the shitty camera angle in the video.) This skier had no intentions of going off the cliff and in an article about it even said that he thinks he does not deserve the record and believes that skiers should land on their feet not their backs, but when dropping from that height you don't really have a choice. Here is his account of the whole ordeal.

"This was the warm up run at the beginning of the day during heli filming, and it turned out that I missed the end of my line with not to many meters (difficult routefinding cause of similar terrain features ). I let my skis go pretty much into the falline and picks up speed instantly, and just thereafter realises my fault and that I will go out something, probably huge.

The mind works amazingly fast under stressed situations; breaking or trying to stop was no longer an option, it simply went to fast. If I had tried that I would[HTML_REMOVED]#8217;nt write this. So that left one choice; go for it, and do it right!

For a fraction of a second I thought this is it, but manages to get in a slight right turn to avoid the cliffs on my skiers left in the landing area. Then comes the take off at an amazing speed ( it felt like that ), I see snow underneath, and I decied that it[HTML_REMOVED]#8217;s not over yet.

In flight I tried to keep a position as long as I could, but airpressure finally pushes the skitips up and you end up in the backseat. That[HTML_REMOVED]#8217;s what I wanted as well, because landing it anything else than horisontally was out of the question!"

fuck lmm

I like how he casually dropped the "I'm famous" bomb.
LMM, if I ever see you at Whistler, make sure Schne is close by to take a picture of me punching you in the balls.

i dont post anymore unless its a lmm thread

wow. I'm amazed this doesn't happen more often! Those guys are sooo damn fast and its not that those features are that obvious unless you are REALLY familiar with the terrain.

That is absolutely massive - however, that said, how does it count as a record-breaking attempt if he didnt land it? Kinda defeats the purpose doesnt it?

I like to throw up prior to dropping into a-line. I find it makes jumping easier.
