Ridgetop alpine rides

went for an alpine ride just west of Calgary on Friday, now it's -18 and 20cm of new snow. Fun while it lasted.

Bump for an amazing adventure. 3 of us tried to do the whole 8000ft this past fall. With the heat wave, it hit 100F in the valley, we only made it to 6000ft before running low on water and turning around. I can relate to all your comments. I've never been so happy to ride onto pavement then at the bottom of this trail. We thought we would have more time to take photos but didn't.

Good job-that ride is an experience! It will probably not be legal as of next year, unfortunately. The Bureau of Land Mgmt is doing a land swap with the Agua Caliente indians that will give the tribe control of the access to the trail. They don't allow bikes on their land, and their rules may even put a halt to hiking it since you have to buy a permit day-of, and they don't open til 9am. To safely hike the trail to the tram up top you have to be hiking by 5am. Unfortunately they have rangers that actually patrol, so poaching it will be risky.
