I'm still out burning the calories by the thousands... you?

What are we calling old?
These days, I'd say 75?
haha, there's chrono old... there's body worn out or too damaged old... there's lie around and lick yourself cuz you're too lazy old... there's "I only got so many years left so better get after it" old... pick any one or combo
Dramatic illustration of how much time you have left in the world; Take a tape measure & extend it out to 82 inches, which is the average lifespan of a Canadian male. Put your finger on your current age. Look at all the time that has passed & what time you have left. If you are like me, you may think "Holy shit, I better get busy and do the things I want to do, before I can't do them anymore".
I'm definitely just lazy old.
Ned's out there hammering a fully rigid up proper mountains like a fucking boss. 👊
Meanwhile townies on the local micro-hill whine about their need for an e-bike because they are 30.
Love this thread. We finally bagged a monster steep climb yesterday that's been on my bucket list for a decade. Recognized an old man hammering out of the saddle near the top who was already old back when he used to crush us in XC races 15+ years ago.
Pedal a bike till the day you keel over, it only gets better the older you get.
I like that line of thinking. It's gonna go on and on til I'm done or I'll be riding on one when I make the last exit. I'm all the above mentioned old types, just damn lucky I can still ride... made both my misfortune and my luck there.
Still working on the boss part, I'm a "never was" so didn't have to go through that whole "washed-up has-been" cycle. Keeps you humble and hungry and always looking for more land... the Carlos Borracho Wormhole in the east foothills of SeaTown is case in point.
what about the 80's riders, Mark? dudes on the left remind me of Mike, Gabe and Dan from their early days up on Fromme. and some Fred (of the Hangman), too.
you still ride much?

Mike and Gabe still ride. Fred has been hurt for a few years now but is on and off the bike.

My riding has been inconsistent the past few years, but I still love being out on two wheels. This past summer was pretty good, lots of riding and reconnecting with some old trails I haven't ridden in ages (Fromme) helped relight the stoke. I kinda don't care what I ride these days tho, just being on a bike out in nature is good. I'm getting back into running again, primarily as a time efficient way to get/keep my cardio up for big rides.
i imagine nearly everyone that frequents this forum (or pretty much any internet forum these days) would qualify as old. at least that's what my kid would say.
but yeah, bought my first mountain bike in 1984; still going hard on a regular basis. gotta keep at it as long as the body permits.

It's hard to juggle reality and keep interest, trust me, I know. I spent a few years sidelined from being injured, metabolism damaged from big ugly rides and in the deep end of kids and a nasty job. Glad you still find some time and have other outlets. The just-happy-to-be-riding thing is a good place to be, doesn't imply you're settling for less, just means you likey the bikey.
Ride more bitch less, or so they say.
