D200 with a 50mm 1.8/D is only 2020!!! do it. otherwise get a d80
I recently bought the 30D and went with the 17-85mm IS lens kit. I have been very happy with this setup, other then I have now dropped another $2000+ in other lenses and gear.
from what I found out when I was looking at the Nikon and the Canon was that it really comes down to pref for the overall feel of the body, and which menu system you like better. Either way you should be happy!
06 - Giant Faith2 - New pedals - the ones they put on stock must have been a joke.. i did not laugh
I recently went from a Rebel XT to a 30D and I really, really like it.
IMHO if you are considering Canon you'd be better off getting a 20d (you can still find them) for about the same money as an XTi. The magnesium body, 5 fps and much better controls make it a no-brainer for me.
at this point its looking like im going to go for the D200. i shot with it last night and was really impressed with its ease to shoot with. Almost all of the cameras settings are on the exterior of the camera on dedicated buttons instead of in a menu/ having to hold down 5 buttons at once. This will make capturing 5 babes per second much easier especially when they're on the move.

good choice…D200 is pretty much a lighter version of the d2x.
