D40x

I havent been following camera gear much latly, and a good friend of mine is going to buy a camera today and he is pretty set on the D40x, but i feel that he would be much better off with the Rebel XTI at pretty much the same price. Does anyone have any feed back for ither of these cameras?

What makes me want him to steer away from the D40x is the lens' that have to be used with that camera need an internal Af drive motor.

D80 is a bit out of his budget.

For $968.00 at costco right now they have a Canon Rebel XT with a 18-55mm and a 55-200mm(i think 200, but its high).
I'd say thats a pretty smoking deal if your looking to get into a DSLR for under a grand before tax even.

But if i were you i would go with a canon!
im happy with mine and i think the XTI is a kick ass camera.

d50 or d70

i think they have d80s at bestbuy for 1300 or something w/ a lens, i dont know anything about cameras but sounds like a good idea to splurge the extra 100 bucks

I just went through exactly the same decision and ended up getting the XTi. Like you said, you're limited to certain lenses with the D40x. This was my biggest deciding factor. You can use any Canon compatible lens with the rebel. Also, the XTi has a sensor cleaner (not a huge deal, but nice).
