That's awesome Johnie-p
So I'm guessing you scored some leftover color from an auto job or something? Got anymore I could buy off you?
My Devinci is way too "just black".

the painter had some left over from a while back. i bugged him for a while to use some on me bike.$25 powder coat is a great deal, but i prefer the base clear because there are infanate color options.it is much more costly though especialy an old frame. it took me four hours to sand out all the scrapes and nicks, than you need to epoxy the bare aluminum, than a color shade than the color and finally the clear.another advantage over powder coat is you can slow bake at a low temp instad of a super high bake temp(not good for frame streangth).a normal color would cost around 300 bucks ,my color around 400. less if its a new. frame.

Johnnie-
When you get your parts back on that sucker, post up some pics. I'd love to see a front yard shot in the sun, kind of a close up right where all the color change is going on. BTW, you have good taste in colors. My favorite color on cars is when they do a dark maroon and drop like 5 clear coats on it. Looks almost black until the sun hits it, then you see what looks like some red under about a foot of glass:thepimp:

I worked in a body shop previously. Clearcoat paints don't last very long - regardless of epoxy/prep. Powdercoating is a much better way to go.

I painted my Brodie Sovereign with a clearcoat paint 3 times before I went and got it powdercoated. I couldn't stand the paint chipping anymore.

you did something wrong than i painted my last bike and it chipped no more than any powder coat finish i have had.maybe you waited to long to paint it after the epoxy.you have a two day max sit time with epoxy. if you wait longer than that you have to sand it all down befor you spray. we also used a thick clear coat.Prouplem is any little scrath or chip realy sticks out compared to abasic color.
