I've been planning on buying a 70d for the last little while, just haven't gotten around to it. DPReview finally has a full review up. Link to the Conclusions page.

I think the most intersting thing here is that they actually get better (i.e. more precise) auotfocus results out of the new-fangled dual-pixel system in live view than they get in the regular viewfinder autofocus. Or am I reading this wrong?

I'm almost avoiding reading about the 70D because it does basically everything I justified buying my 7D over a 60D and has built in wifi. No brainer. Buy it.

70d just came out… really good deals to be had on the 60d, just sayin. Obviously the 70d will be slightly better but is it worth justify the 700$ difference ? Probably not

Depends on what you are going to do with the camera. I'm considering switching to it from my 7D, which trumped the 60D for my needs at the time.

I've been using mine for a few weeks now. Previous camera was a T2i.

Touch screen is very useful. It's faster at everything, and double the frame rate on continuous shots. Video focuses is quicker and better. Lens is STM, so no noticeable noise and very fast focusing. Lots of menu options, all useful. Low light shots are probably a stop faster. WiFi is useful but still clunky. Buttons are really well laid out. Grip is much better than the Rebel series - balance is very good. Battery also lasts much longer.

I slso purchased the EF 70-300 IS that Canon Canada has on sale, and although the IS mechanism is noisy, it works well on the 70D. I like that the 70D had microadjusment capability.

I'd say 70D is a no-brainer. You get a compact body the size of the 60D, and combines new technology with the 5D mkIII. Aps-c sensor, 12800 standard ISO, DIGIC 5+ processor. It has 98% viewfinder coverage, which is 2% more than the 60D (but 2% less than the 7D) and let's you use SD cards, useful if you already have many and don't want to invest in a CF reader or connect your camera to your pc.

The article states that the autofocus in live-view is much better than previous versions of any Canon camera, but viewfinder still trumps. I never have autofocus on in live-view so I never really looked into live-view focus.

Other than that you should get the 70D. It's a step above the 60D, but it sounds like it's closer to the 7D, with technology borrowed from other high-end cameras.

Pulled the trigger on it last night. Was close to talking myself into a 6d…but the lens hassles that would entail made me think it would be kind of stupid.

Haven't used it other than in the store. But the autofocus is so much better than my old t2i. Touch screen seems pretty intuitive as well.

My one concern - t2i is very quick to change between auto point selection and manual point selection, but the 70d needs you to make two moves to go from auto to your specific point or zone. Perhaps I'll learn to just use the zone system or something like that? We'll see.

I am looking for a sub $1000 camera for amateur making mountain bike vids on Whistler etc.. What specs/features is it important to look for? Why does everyone like the 70D so much for example?
Right now my favourite is the Sony Nex - 6. Looks like good quality in a more easy to carry size.
Any advice is appreciated. Thanks

Canon's most popular DSLR is the T3i $550, with kit lens. This is the most popular camera out.

DSLR's have crazy selection of lenses. For video, especially low light, you want fast, low aperature lenses. For primes, faster than f1.8. For zoom lenses, faster than f2.8. Good glass makes a huge difference. Canon L glass is the high standard, but big $$$. Sigma, Tokina, Tamron make good quality lenses.

The Canon has more lenses available than any other camera, 241 on b[HTML_REMOVED]h, and they are all over Craigslist.

Sony has 47, and 25 that are faster than f2.8

I would probably get a good point and shoot, if you want something you can carry around in your pocket.

Nice. I have the S110 and it takes very nice photos. The digic 6 on the S120 is a nice improvement. Using RAW can be useful, if you have the time to play with photo editing software.
