Ok, well my current "small (18-55mm)" lens has become the victim of a drop, I am looking for a new one. I was watching my neighbours kid, camera was on the counter. Little kid grabbed the strap while I wasnt looking, pulling it over the edge and smashing the lens into 7 pieces.

So, I am looking for a replacement! My budget is 600 CAD, looking for something fast but NON-PRIME please. I have my eyes on the Sigma 24-70 f2.8, however a lot of lenses in this area get mixed reviews.

Thanks for the help in advance!

Andrew C.

Just a few that look pretty sweet, and relativily cheep for a canon lens…

16-35 2.8

or

24-70 2.8

both of which would be the Canon ones, they have come down about two hundred dollars in the last three months. the 24-70 is a great buy now.

get the nikkor 12-24 !

I was a little dissapointed actually just because all the stuff for sale was mostly for females, but I was able to pick up some "rocket power" which is like a tingiling balm for your peepee.

I was joking I'd probably never have sex with a hooker. I'm friends with a couple of the high up ones though…

andrew - what kind of camera do you have? model - and be sure to get it checked out - that much force on the mount might have thrown the whole body out of alignment - and the ccd / mirror might be out of line too… is your friend going to help pay for it?

Just to be safe, I sent it in to my camera shop. Everything is fine.

Yeah, my friend is covering the cost of the old lens, so 170 bucks.

I currently have a drebel, but moving up to a 20d in a few weeks.

Top of my list for lenses is the Sigma 24-70 F2.8. I have no need for Lglass right now (would rather pick up a 70-200 F2.8 at that price).

Just remember about the multiplier.

20d will have a 1.6 multiplier I think.

Your 18-55 would have shot like a 28-88

A 24-70 will be like a 38-112

You will be loosing a lot of your wide angle.

If you know this, sorry for the redundancy.

to tide you over, i'd get a 50 f1.8 until you figure out what you really want. it isnt he most versatile of lenses because, well, it's fixed zoom, but it's incredible for portraits and "standard" shots, and it's one of the fastest lens you can buy

could probably find one for 200CAD or under for a new one too.

Here she is, Sigma 24-70 F2.8

Will mainly be used for mountain bike photography, as well as some landscape/cityscape and other random things.

Cant wait to test her out more tomorrow :).

Also, tried out the 10-22 EF-S by Canon, might be my next lens ;).
