The back story is quite interesting and I don't blame the ranchers for being pissed off at the BLM. I definitely don't agree with the method they are showing it though.
Really? You don't blame them for being pissed at the BLM for enforcing rules that have been in place for decades, and the ranchers have just ignored those rules? So it's okay for the ranchers to just used public lands for their personal ranchland?

When one person suffers from a delusion, it is called insanity.
When many people suffer from a delusion, it is called religion.

Hmmm, where have I heard that song before?
Don't forget
Big Surprise
Leader of armed protesters in Oregon took out $530,000 federal loan
But Bundy told CNN on Tuesday that he's not opposed to government and said that taking a six-figure loan from the Small Business Administration doesn't conflict with his political philosophy.
Took the righteous path of Ayan Rand, who herself received Social Security and Medicaid in her old age.

I am referring to the current issue in Oregon, not the cliven bundy standoff.
Not sure how much truth there is to this, but I saw this posted earlier

Depends on who you believe … a relative of one of the people charged testified as a witness against the two, so who knows?

They are accused of setting a fire on their land that spread to federal land. Apparently this was done to stop a fire from lightning strikes. They pled guilty anf the federal government appealed the sentences and apparently that's what led to this.

The accusations that they had carried out other unauthorized burns previously and endangered the lives of firefighting crews in the area (causing one group to abandon their camp) were reasons given by the prosecutor for the need for heavy sentences. Don't know if anything but an appeal or re-trial could change that. There were also charges of poaching in the refuge.
For some idea of how dry it gets there, last year over 400,000 acres burned in Oregon, and 3 wildlands firefighters died in Western Washington, in 2013 3 firefighters died in Oregon fighting wildfires.
Min sentance was 5, local court gave them 3, appealed by fed court and now they owe 2… The rest are just yahoo dickbags.
Is there a Vancouver in Taiwan?! I had no idea!!
Nothing sums up my life's achievements like my stuffed corpse, suplexing a cougar.

There's a Safeway in Burns, 40 km away:
Freedom of contract. We sell them guns that kill them; they sell us drugs that kill us.
Ummmm …. the media reported all that, and more. Counterpunch is confusing 2 separate events, one in 2001 and one in 2006. And the media also reports that virtually none of the locals want anything to do with Bundys (unless it is the Queensland rum).
