How bad its still out there right ? MY medical consultant / ski & paddle bud (4 shots) recently got covid at a super spreader BD party in the craft brew which I missed, Buddy is an MD drinking in a group of 12 some of whom were also medical types , it was his second or 3rd time getting covid, he said it wasn't bad maybe 5 or 6 days of minor symptoms

My kids just got it yesterday, 12 & 14, two shots each last year- They're pretty flattened. Bizarre bad aches and pains, and low grade fevers. Generally pretty miserable. I'm a day or two ahead of them in showing symptoms probably. I've had every shot (7?)- I haven't had a fever, just a bad upper respiratory infection for a couple of long days then today I seem to be improving. I read somewhere that it takes a couple of days before the vaccine kicks in, seems on par with what I'm feeling.
Honestly had no idea I had it. I'd been very careful with masking previously, but since the numbers dropped precipitously I haven't been. Hung out with friends 2 days ago in an outdoor setting, hope to god we didn't unknowingly spead it.
Like everyone, most everyone I know has had it. Most mild, some bad, a few really bad. I've had a couple of unvaccinated friends get dangerously ill, and one family member die before the vaccine was widely available.

I've had 5 shots so far but I only had Covid once from working the door at a Legion event where a couple of redneck hockey teams showed up
i don't know anyone who died but a journalist in super shape i took skiing was vaccinated but has been long covid for > a year,
buddy could barely walk for the longest time
Went to visit my 90 year old aunt a few months ago in Victoria, the week after all BC restrictions lifted. She’s in a large care home. No constraints to enter or visit.
We get there, and instead of meeting in the common room, she asks us up to her room because of ‘stomach issues, needs to stay close to her bathroom’. Initially, she was very against an in room visit due to her tiny room.
I tell my very cautious sister to take off her mask since no one in the facility is wearing one. We all give Auntie big hugs, which she’s been missing for two years.
Two days later, my mom lets is know Auntie is testing positive and isolating (gasp!).
She’s all good still, I’m happy to report now. We never noticed issues.

Seasonal Covid update?
What are people's acceptable levels of risk these days in regards to Covid - ie still wearing masks in public and avoiding gatherings or has it been pushed off the back of the stove and life is back to "normal"? If you knew your risk of long Covid was between 6-10% would that alter your behaviour?
For the most part I am thankful that my risk of exposure is relatively low most of the time and at other times I can take measures to reduce my risk. But it is somewhat surprising to see the general level of disregard from the government, in media and in public.
One difference is in the early days of Covid it took a long time to show any symptoms. Our bodies just didn't know what the fuck it was and didn't react for a few days. Test negative, decide you feel fine go without a mask, then inadvertently pass it on. Like the anti-maskers did continually. Trump counties are still showing higher fatality rates even today.
These days most everyone's had it or been vaxxed and they show symptoms more quickly, so for the rational among us anyway, it's easier to avoid spreading it.
Nothing to do with anyone else's approach, but lately unless I'm showing symptoms, or I'm going to be around someone vulnerable I haven't been masking. Actually this week I have been all day...but just because I've been visiting with some elderly folks.
Heading to China next month for the first time since this all started. Not really sure what to expect but I'm planning to mask up in public while we're in the city then relax when we're in the village with the in-laws.
I don't mask but I'm not above masking if they tell me to, not around kids much or in many crowds, I've had every covid shot & at least 2 yr of flu shots so i'm probably good to go even if I do get covid

I mask up at malls, airports, anywhere I'm inside with large groups of people or myself or family is sick.
I do enjoy that “I’m sick, staying home, sorry” has been normalized, even when its just a cough or sniffle.

Indeed. That will wane in time though. Where I worked before I retired we had to tell people to go home before they infected us with whatever that had. I think during the heart of the pandemic many people many deniers never considered the economic implications of staff missing work. A lot of work. And infecting co-workers too.
My buddy went to Mexico and then Calgary for Christmas. Ended up with the worst flu he’s ever had. Tested for Covid twice and it wasn’t that. He was in bed for several days. Now his partner is sick with what would appear to be the same thing. One reason I hate air travel. A good way to get sick.
I mask on airplanes, there’s always a few coughing infectious twits on a plane, that’s about it.

My mom tested negative C-19 twice with a horrible hacking cough before we eventually, convinced her to visit the doctor for pneumonia medicine. Father-in-law did the same, left the pneumonia too long. Thankfully both are recovering. Sigh.
Caught it finally a few months back. Was mild for me, half a day of chills and aches, heart rate up a bit. Rested up in bed for a few days and that was it. Poor wife ran the gauntlet of all the symptoms and had a lingering cough for weeks.
Haven't worn a mask in ages, I stay home when I'm sick. I don't make a thing about it if I'm requested to put one on, it's whatever.
