Yup. Not to mention the anxiety of spreading it to someone.

Today I feel just fine. So one night and day feeling a bit off. Like someone beat the shit out of me with a wiffle bat. Not that bad.

When we're out riding these days it's worth considering what level of risk we're willing to take in light of the current strain on the medical system.

"The voice of a veteran nurse at Lions Gate breaks and she pauses to control her emotions before explaining that nurses had between 12 and 17 patients to monitor as they laid in the waiting room on those days, along with triage duties. Her colleagues tried their best, she said, but needed more staff to provide these patients with proper care and to detect if they were starting to show symptoms of distress."

Almost belongs its own thread though. Health Care system issues predate covid, and are not a result of covid. Maybe exacerbated, at most.

Maybe an obvious statement, but man our public healthcare system is a disaster. 30% of my taxes go to a system where I can't even get a family doctor.

Took me 17 years after moving to Ontario to finally in the door somewhere to get something close to a family doctor. And it took getting maimed by a car and a veteran I knows  wife who is a nurse and who was higher up the chain in the Ministry of Unhealth Care to get through to one.

Covid exposed a lot of how shitty our two tier health care system is.

Interesting.  I would like to see what others have to say about this report because some of the language they used sounds like they got their PHDs from Convoy U.  It was presented as research but it was packed with criticisms.

Yeah, I think you're pretty right to be a little skeptical. Just take a quick look around their site, two pre-prints (Not published and therefor not subject to peer review) and a self-published 'report'. This just screams fringe.

Whatever it is, it sure ain’t a peer-reviewed science journal.

There's a variety of excess mortality data sliced and diced here: https://ourworldindata.org/excess-mortality-covid

The stats read to me that the covid death numbers are higher than excess mortality numbers (but within statistical bounds). But first easy explanation for that would be that a person that 'would have died' of the flu in a given season, died of covid and hence is not 'excess mortality'.

I think it has to be what you describe.  There were so many changes in all of our day-to-day lives that we would need to analyze all of those changes first to determine how they would affect deaths.  Less flu as you said, fewer kilometres driven in cars, fewer workplace accidents.  On the other side, there were probably more people dying because they didn't want to go to the hospital.  The baseline changed and unless we were purposely being misled (which is what that 'report' was saying, the death numbers from COVID would be easy to track.  The report doesn't even mention this and boil it down to 2 choices, either the government saved a million lives from COVID and did such a good job that the excess deaths didn't even increase much, or "there was no such contagious and virulent pathogen present, and, if anything, the Covid measures may have caused net harm."  They literally put "COVID doesn't exist" as an option.
