If by believing in laws, respect and personal responsibility means I'm with the fascists, then I guess I am.

Well boys, I’m getting a bit of a first hand look at things from the medical staff perspective this evening. I’ve just finally been moved to a bed in the cardiac ward at Abbotsford hospital after spending thirty hours in the ER.

It doesn’t seem too bad here till you look a little deeper. They are short staffed with hospitals like Surrey needing to be pumped up. Extra protocols that slow things a little. What effects myself and every other person here right now is I can’t see any of my family, AT ALL. I’m likely only going to be here a couple of more days but for others that could be much longer. And I’m APPALLED that even in a hospital there are patients who put up a stink about wearing a mask when out of your bed.

You ok?

I had a heart attack while out on a ride on Saturday. Fortunately for me there was a group just behind as I was the last in my group of three. Luckily for me it happened going from one mtn to the other and I was close to Dewdny.

Thanks Stu.

Turns out my folks passed on some bad genes. I have ventricular tachycardia and a partial blockage in my heart. Either tomorrow or Wednesday they will perform angioplasty and install a stent. The best part is I won’t have to give up my bike. Going to have to make some lifestyle changes though. Less fries more salad?

Get well Flatch. I had an ablation done last year to fix a supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) issue. Not as serious as your issue but modern medical procedures are amazing and I'm sure you'll be back at it soon.

Back to this COVID stuff. Ya I’m finally in a real room but because the results of my swab yesterday haven’t come back yet that means I can’t share the bathroom with my neighbour. That means I still can’t have a shower AND I have to shit in a paper tray under a chair with a hole in it.

Almost forgot, did I mention I turn 50 tomorrow.

Good times

Well from a good perspective you can tell your kid that the heart attack was brought on by all the stress he caused from him not listening to you. ;)

The genetic thing is a huge component with heart disease. That’s why even with people who are healthy, if they have a history of heart disease they should be getting a stress test done in their 40’s and getting their ticker checked on a regular (yearly) basis.

Good to see that you’re getting taken care of.

Hang in there Flatch! And happy early birthday! Don't let the hospital get you down, they will fix you up.
