So the university of Oxford in the UK have produced a vaccine that looks like a winner. The question is would you get the vaccine? Something that has been rushed thru the testing phases so quickly? For the record I'm not an anti vaxxer.

I would get it, but I have someone close to me that is highly vulnerable to the virus so as far as risk is concerned I might have a different calculation than others.  I am not sure what the risk is for taking a vaccine without a lot of testing but it seems worth it to me.

Yes. My life is all fucked up by this thing.

I don’t know about the UK but the US program doesn’t really speed up the safety steps - it’s addresses the funding issues at each stage of development that often slow drug development.

The following is a great read and like it says I've been considering the possibility that life with the threat of covid is the new normal and humanity is going to have to adapt to live with it.

The Coronavirus Is Never Going Away. No matter what happens now, the virus will continue to circulate around the world.

Good read.

What's worrisome is that the world wasn't prepared for this pandemic.  In a couple years some other pandemic might occur, caused by a much more virulent and lethal pathogen.

What's worrisome is that this was predicted a long time ago and instead of listening to them we decided it's in our best interests to keep the donor class rich instead.

So what is the over/under for the schools closing before Halloween?  This idea that kids are poor vectors for the virus just seems like stupidity wrapped in wishful thinking.

No matter how the kids fare, based on my conversations with the teachers I know, getting teachers to come in and do in-person teaching is going to be a challenge.

I guess I should have said, "schools closing/teachers striking".  I bet a lot of the older teachers might just retire.  I guess we will see in a month.  The BCTF has still not endorsed the plan and I assume that is due to feedback from teachers.  I really don't understand the reluctance to make masks mandatory for the teachers and older kids.  I really want to know what happens when outbreaks start popping up too.  Does the school shut down, does the cohort go home and get tested?  Do they have any online learning planned?

I have an 8-year old that I would love to get the eff out of my house but not if it means going back to a full shutdown.  I have the opportunity to keep her home and I plan to do so, but they have offered nothing for parents to support that decision.  It is just bonkers.

She would need a few years of re-education first to meet the high Chinese standard of child productivity.  I can't even get her to clean her room.
