Yes the coronavirus is a cause for concern, but it seems to be being managed as well as it can be given the circumstances. To put it in perspective, 3500/year die in Canada from the flu but there is nowhere near the fear that something like this brings for some reason. People will go out and buy medical masks thinking that they will help and cancel cultural events because of the threat of coronavirus, but those same people wont go out and get a flu shot every year. Yes, I know the flu shot isnt 100% and has its own set of debates, Im just trying to emphasize how people can react to something new in such irrational ways.

Most of these viruses are not that much to worry about until the one that is.  Panic is not good, but being overly cautious with new viruses is good practice so I think a little bit of fear is probably more help than harm.

"In some people, especially young children and those over 65 years of age or people with other systemic illnesses (e.g. heart disease, diabetes, cancer, respiratory illnesses) influenza can be very severe, requiring hospitalization. People with these risk factors should receive immunization against influenza each year. The death rate for influenza in Canada is 500 to 1500 cases per year."

"Epidemiology of influenza in Canada

Influenza and pneumonia are ranked among the top 10 leading causes of death in Canada.

Each year in Canada, it is estimated that influenza causes approximately:

12,200 hospitalizations

3,500 deaths"

Im sure the number varies depending on source, my real point is that people are more worried about this new virus than they are about the yearly flu which has a much larger effect on the population

Yes I said only 60 dead.. because when you see video's coming out of Wuhan, you think they're lucky if its only 60 based on certain scenese.

Consider this a warning if you click the link.

I'm not one to fright or panic easily at all, but judging by the way they're reacting over there in all the videos I'm highly inclined to believe more than 60 people have died from this.

Everyone's losing their shit in all the footage I've seen. And the fact that they covered it up for days? Fuck them.

Wet markets are an established and ingrained part of Chinese community and culture, and thus it is no surprise that diseases are now jumping from animals to humans and humans to humans.

"The present system of production is self-destructive; the present course of human civilization is suicidal."

Are you curious coronavirus?

“Eating wild animals is considered a symbol of wealth because they are more rare and expensive. And wild animals are also considered more natural and, thus, nutritious, compared to farmed meat. It's a belief in traditional Chinese medicine that it can boost the immune system…Of course, some people eat wild animals just because they were driven by curiosity.”

The word pandemic seems to be a combination of the words panic & epidemic. That doesn't sound good.

The world is overpopulated, and could do with a good plague.

This latest coronavirus has good potential to cause a rukus, what with the host walking around infecting others for 7-10 days before their own symptoms even show up.

On one hand the media is saying people are overreacting . Then you see airlines stopping service to China, Australia is setting up a quarantine center on Christmas Island.

I think the rate of infection is way higher than being reported?

Love the Conspiracy theories. Obviously China didn't create this... they go thru a lot of work putting safety catch nets in at the sweatshop complexes.  So people don't die when they throw themselves to their death making iphones 14 hours a day. Would be bad for business.
