It might be worth applying some context to Endurimil's comment. He's been going through a shit time with docs, physios and insurance people jerking him around after getting run down and left for dead while he was out cycling.

Health care was already a gong show before Covid restrictions in 2020. All it did was bring it all to the light the  system many have to argue with to get medical treatments.

The conspiracy mind in me just sees the same old shitty neo con/lib playbook to whittle away at the funding of a public service until it no longer functions properly while building general public support for a privatized option.

To fully ruin it once and for all?

It's the public service to private service neo-lib pipeline.

I got my #4 a few weeks ago. I had a typical reaction to the others, just tired for a day but I got no reaction at all from the 4th.

Started with Reagan according to this propaganda (worth a watch IMO).

Looking him up, he was Dem, then switched to Rep in ‘62, so swings both ways   Always a SAG member though.

There's two factions to it that is destroying the public health care tier. The politicians who claim that they care but you dammed well know if they need any kind of serious health care they aren't waiting two plus years to get it nor having to fight the various bureaucrat types who make it is difficult as possible for us lowly Serfs. The other half of the issue is the various admin staff and  bureaucrat  types who for what ever reason do the bare minimum if that and make lives miserable for patients.

Add in during Covid restrictions the games various health care parts where playing. Nothing like sending threats to victims of crime that because you can't access needed medical services due to lock down as they where ordered closed by Ottawa. You where slacking off and we will now threaten to cut off needed care to prevent injuries from getting worse.  I know that locally at the Cancer clinic where people who needed Chemo to live some where lying that they where symptom free....because simply it was either that or die from Cancer.

Reality is before Covid restrictions  revealed how shitty the health care system is now it was already a system that rewarded you for not really needing. But now that you need it let's punish you by making it as difficult as possible.

I don't quite follow your comment here but this one hits a little closer to home.

My wife was diagnosed with breast cancer this summer.

Her overall experience with the medical system, both BC cancer and local hospital, has been excellent. She had a double mastectomy at lions gate six weeks ago and is recovering well.

I'm self employed and although we have good insurance the one thing they would not cover us for was breast cancer (family history). It's all been ok but I shudder to think about how this would have gone down in many other countries.

I know, sample size of one, but there are positive stories out there too.

A close friend has been dealing with breast cancer in the Victoria area and she's been treated well, which has been heartening to hear. Last thing you want is to deal with cancer and not feel like you are being treated competently. I'm glad your wife is recovering well.

On a related medical note I got a call yesterday from a medical clinic near me and I have a family doctor! First time in over 12 years. The line ups at the walk in medical clinics I pass by have looked pretty grim so I am glad to be able to make an appointment and see a primary care physician when I need to.

It's nice to hear a positive story, Kenny.  My wife has health issues and I know how draining it can be.

I don't know how old most of you are but I turn 50 just before Christmas and I am noticing that more and more of my friends are going through health issues with themselves or their spouses.  I am getting half my thyroid removed soon (I hope) because it is swollen and the specialist said there is a 20% chance it could become cancerous.  Luckily it is one of the most treatable forms of cancer so I am not really worried, but it is a wake-up call.

My wife was diagnosed with Breast Cancer 4 years ago when our daughter was 14 months old. She underwent a single mastectomy, some pretty aggressive chemo, a second prophylactic mastectomy on the remaining breast, followed by reconstruction.

To this day, we are incredibly thankful that we are Canadian. She has received top notch care and we were thankfully able to focus on her health and not whether her diagnosis would financially ruin us.

There are definitely some downsides, but I didn't have to go full-on Walter White and cook meth to support our family.

Woah, twinsies! My surgery is supposed to be sometime in January. Indeterminate biopsy results with a 20-30% chance of malignancy. Took nearly six months to get my initial ultrasound.

"The summer that changed everything

As far as viral evolution goes, all was relatively simple through the “stealth Omicron” surge earlier this year, experts say. A new variant would materialize and the number of cases would surge, vacillate a bit, then fall, like clockwork. But the calculus changed this summer with BA.5. The new-generation Omicron spawn surged globally—then surged again in some places like Germany and France. Meanwhile, in other countries, fellow Omicron strains XBB or BQ—or their descendants—began to swell.Today, there are hundreds of Omicron strains, all with mutations that provide increased transmissibility, the ability to escape immunity, the potential to cause more severe disease, or a combination thereof."
