They are kind of interesting. The first time you see the package being built on the platform it is pretty entertaining. You are going to laugh at the tiny drill floor and crappy little driller's shack after that drillship.
What do you do? Most people move up to deepwater, not the other way. And will you be drilling for Chevron. If so that will be a bit of an eye opener too.

By company I mean whoever is the employer, for example CLAC at the mill here in town is gona be a better Union for the owner to deal with than the IWA or steelworker or any other union you could come up with
Yeah if your are a big company CLAC is awesome compared to IWA etc.

An interesting thing I have noticed is if you are an IWA member it is possible to move around SO any town in BC with a mill will have indo canadians so probably a temple (houston/pg/quesnel) and a good resturant(s) ect .

Ya, it's a tough slog right now for a lot of people. Don't let this change your opinion of Alberta too significantly though - the shop I'm at hired more than have been fired and we've secured enough contracts to keep us going through the slow times with minimal damage. The best companies protect themselves through this, the Eastern Canadians go ride pogie for 8-10 months, and we all get back to business as usual this time next year. I'm using all 4 weeks of my allotted holidays for the first time in never this year and going back to school.
Don't ever come to Alberta looking for work. It's a sinking ship. You heard it right here, from me go-t. That's who I am.
