I´m having a buggy time with win 10 on my xps 13 laptop, but no issues at all on my desktop.
I'd say don't get a Surface. Full ultrabooks with magnetic tablet-screen detatch from a conventional keyboard/trackpad are just around the corner.
Go on.
I would imagine the i7 8gb ram model is ultra book territory
I generally hate laptops I find the typing position is less than ideal. But I travel a lot for work. I usually use a USB keyboard with my laptop. So I figured a top end surface hooked up to keyboard, mouse and a screen or two would be ideal.
Also attracted to the pen. Part of me wants a flashy device for work, I'm looking for a bit of showmanship in all honesty for some of the things I do and meetings attend.

If you're running Win7 or Win8 and install all the updates without looking, you've been Windows 10'd.

Oh great, I'm just on 50 of 109 after a power outage killed the boot sector on my SSD.
Why didn't you just fix the boot sector?

Not everyone has the right type of oil.

Agreed. The oil I used just got the keyboard greasy. I'm happy there's still pictures and documents on the hard drives.
So, power goes out on Saturday and computer refuses to boot. My primary SSD had Win7 on it and all my programs. Documents, etc on a second drive backed up to a third drive. HDD #2 was my old OS, and I used Migrate OS to copy it onto the new SSD, leaving an unused version of Win7 on HDD #2.
I tried chkdsk/f, but the SSD drive would not fix itself - it would not boot. So I reformatted the SSD and installed a new version of Win7 on it. Seems to be working now, but if I set the SSD as the first boot drive, it will not boot up.
I now get an option at boot to select one of two versions of Win7 - one off the SSD and the other off HDD #2. The SSD Windows runs (obviously faster than the version off HDD #2), but still won't boot on it's own.
WTF?
Just boot off of the installation medium and select the repair computer option.

I tried that multiple times and it wouldn't fix it. Maybe now that I've reformatted… Will try again.
Too fast.
Your system thinks the other drive is the boot drive. It's loading and then giving you the option to load Windows off of the SSD.
Make sure your BIOS is set to boot off if the SSD. If it then won't boot off of the SSD, do what I put in the above post.

Yup, bios set to boot off SSD is a multiple times no go.
Boot off of installation medium. Boot to command prompt. Run DISKPART. Select the SSD drive. Select partition view. The first one needs to be a primary partition. It also needs to be marked as ACTIVE or the BIOS won't it's MBR.
Google DISKPART for command line options. It's not super easy, but not that hard either.
